This opportunity is based in our Lexington, KY office but offers flexibility to work from home part of the work week.
The development specialist is responsible for raising five and six figure corporate gifts while also supporting the fundraising relationship engagement efforts for The Council of State Governments. The position requires the ability and initiative to establish and cultivate relationships with existing and new partners and sponsors to support the financial goals that align to the organizational priorities.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Responsible for high-level fundraising results for national programs and events.
- →Support the Development Department in carrying out quality relationship management strategies and interactions with representatives of private sector partners and prospective partners that produce positive development efforts.
- →Support the development, implementation, execution, and outcomes of CSG external fund development plan and development efforts.
- →Responsible for leveraging and managing internal donor software programs, with attention to consistency in data collection, integrity, analysis, and reporting.
- →Ability to track fundraising success and provide progress reports.
- →Development of prospectuses for private sector partners.
- →Provide development support for all CSG national programs and events.
- →Be a CSG ambassador at all national programs.
- →Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the organization's mission and priorities.
- →Responsible for assisting in the day-to-day functions and operations of the Development Department, including daily activities and departmental administration.
- →Assist in planning, organizing, and execution of fundraising events and programs.
- →Ability to draft and track fundraising proposals.
- →Partner with the communications team to create compelling, donor-facing promotional materials and other communications.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills and competence to work effectively with a myriad of local, state and federal officials, including high level executive, legislative and judicial leaders as well as multiple internal departments and external stakeholders including funders.
- Knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.
- Ability to work and conduct activities in a nonpartisan political environment.
- Strong research skills.
- Must possess excellent writing and technology skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Superior judgement, organizational and planning skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and meeting established deadlines.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and handle politically sensitive work.
- Self-motivated, able to take initiative and see complex tasks through to completion.
- Motivated self-starter, adaptable, resilient and service oriented.
- Strong interpersonal skills including self-awareness, sensitivity and valuing others.

Requirements
~1 min read- Five years of professional experience with at least two years of front-line fund
- Experience in professional research, event planning and customer service.
- Experience working in government or a nonprofit organization preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
What We Offer
~1 min readThe salary range for this position, based in Lexington, KY, is $59,000 to $75,000. This salary range is subject to change based on work location and market conditions.
