PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach provides strength and conditioning support to athletes within CSI Pacific’s National, NextGen, Provincial, and Performance Nation programs. This is considered a mentored positiondesigned for an emerging coach seeking to gain experience in a high-performance sport environment while developing practical coaching skills under the guidance of experienced Strength and Conditioning Coaches. 

 

REPORTS TO: Lead, Strength and Conditioning 

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: CSI Pacific’s strength and conditioning team

KEY DELIVERABLES & DUTIES: 

Development, Delivery & Supervision of Strength and Conditioning Programs 

  • Supervise strength and conditioning sessions, ensuring proper technique is utilized and hygiene/safety standards are followed 
  • With guidance from PS-2/PS-3 strength and conditioning coaches, establish short- and long-term goals, design strength and conditioning programs, and determine all aspects of training cycles 
  • Test and evaluate new strength and conditioning approaches or equipment to determine value regarding assigned sports 
  • Record datamaintain database, and provide input into database development and enhancement 
  • Interact, where appropriate, with other CSIP sport science and medicine practitioners to increase learnings on how to operate within an integrated support team (IST) 
  • Collaborate with NSO & PSO sport coaching staff to ensure optimal periodized training plans 

 CSI Pacific Strength & Conditioning Department Duties

  • Upkeep of CSIP’s High-Performance gym and recovery area 
  • Support departmental, applied projects  
  • Support gaps in service delivery scheduling 

 CSI Pacific Organizational Duties

  • Engage in organizational meetings and events; learning opportunities; training 

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: 

REQUIRED: 

  • Completion of Masters program in sports science, or related area 
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) Certification or equivalent 
  • First Aid & CPR-C 
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check 

 

DESIRABLE: 

  • NCCP Olympic Weightlifting or equivalent 
  • Experience working in high performance environment 
  • Background in sport as a former athlete or coach is considered an asset 
  • Physiology experience would be an asset 
  • Valid BC Driver’s license 
  • Intermediate level skier or snowboarder 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

REQUIRED: 

  • Ability to translate theoretical learnings to applied practice and adjust where necessary 
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment  
  • Proficiency with using databases 
  • Ability to take instruction and maintain a growth mindset 

 

DESIREABLE: 

  • Good team building skills and ability to adjust to changing priorities 

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Some travel may be required for this role. Working outdoors and/or in adverse conditions could be requiredWorking evenings and/or weekends may be required.
