Click�here�for more information\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPOSITION HIGHLIGHTS\r\n\r\n\r\n This position is full-time, following a first shift schedule, Monday - Friday, and 40 hours per week from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.\r\n As an EP Maintainer 2, you will be charged with working both independently and with others for proactive and scheduled maintenance projects.\r\n This position is critical in supporting the crew that is responsible for the maintenance and repair of DEEP roads, public parking lots, trails, bridges, installation and repair of utilities, DEEP owned public boat launches with floating docks (installation, removal and maintenance) as well as infrastructure projects and repairs.\r\n There are approximately 425 DEEP owned buildings located throughout the West District; 121 miles of gravel roads, 37 state owned boat launches and 102 state owned dams and flood control areas.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n ABOUT US�\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n The�Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)�is charged with conserving, improving and protecting the natural resources and the environment of the state of Connecticut as well as making cheaper, cleaner and�more reliable energy available for the people and businesses of the state. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection this class is accountable for independently performing maintenance and moderately-skilled tasks in trade practices.\r\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

\r\n\r\n Performs general maintenance and moderately-skilled maintenance work at facilities owned by or under control of the department’s land, buildings and equipment including but not limited to simple automotive repairs and light equipment repairs;�\r\n Sharpens saws and axes;�\r\n Performs simple plumbing tasks such as a union change or faucet repairs, rough carpentry, painting, minor electrical repairs, etc.;�\r\n Operates and maintains trucks, tractors, boats and related equipment;�\r\n Uses and maintains firefighting equipment;�\r\n May lead a small seasonal crew or group of firefighters;�\r\n May do planting, transplanting, cutting and pruning;�\r\n May perform tasks relating to care, propagation and stocking of fish including maintenance and repair of hatchery and stocking equipment;�\r\n May work with blueprints and specifications;�\r\n May work with support services in areas of general maintenance of lands, buildings and dams;�\r\n May perform patrol and firefighting activities;�\r\n May act as a firefighter;�\r\n May perform clerical duties of very limited duration;�\r\n May perform emergency first aid as needed;�\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

\r\n Interpersonal skills;�\r\n Ability to\r\n \r\n perform general maintenance and semi-skilled trade tasks;�\r\n operate and make repairs to small tools and mechanical equipment;�\r\n follow general instructions;�\r\n utilize computer software.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of experience in maintenance and repair work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

Graduation from a secondary school with specialization in a trade pertinent to the operation, maintenance and development of natural resources may be substituted for the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Experience performing building and grounds maintenance tasks including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, painting, landscaping and snow removal;\r\n Experience operating and maintaining groundskeeping, landscaping equipment in a boat launch setting;\r\n Experience maintaining and repairing hand and power tools used in the construction and landscape industries;\r\n Experience operating heavy construction equipment and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) trucks and trailers;\r\n Experience working independently on construction projects;\r\n Experience leading or supervising employees and planning work assignments;\r\n Experience conducting oral and written communications with the public in an outdoor recreational area or campground setting; and�\r\n Experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs.\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and retain a Standard First Aid certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.\r\n Incumbents engaged in the operation of heavy equipment will be required to possess and retain the necessary current licenses, permits and or certifications as required by federal and state laws and regulations.\r\n Incumbents performing skilled trade work may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses and/or certifications as required by a particular trade.\r\n Incumbents may be required to operate a motor vehicle and to possess and retain the appropriate valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license, such as a Commercial Driver's License.\r\n\r\n

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must be in good health and must have and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity to effectively perform the duties of the class.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some danger of injury working under varying weather conditions, lifting moderate weights, and handling chemical solutions.\r\n
