PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection this class is accountable for managing the implementation of training or accreditation programs and providing assistance to law enforcement units in establishing and maintaining training or accreditation programs and facilities which conform to professional standards.\r\n
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
\r\n\r\n Assists in administration of training or accreditation programs;\r\n Coordinates, plans and manages activities in area of police training or accreditation and professional standards;\r\n Formulates program goals and objectives;\r\n Develops or assists in the development of related policy;\r\n Audits and evaluates programs, facilities and equipment utilized law enforcement units for effectiveness and conformance with training and accreditation standards;\r\n Coordinates contracted recruit instructors or accreditation assessors;\r\n Develops, prepares and presents training or accreditation informational programs;\r\n Consults with police leadership, training or accreditation officers and other department officials and recommends courses, programs, equipment or facilities designed to meet specific training, regulation, or accreditation needs;�\r\n Conducts examinations of training staff and program graduates or assessments of law enforcement agencies;\r\n Recommends training approval and certification of programs, instructors or law enforcement units meeting standards or revocation of approval where standards not maintained;\r\n Maintains records;�\r\n Maintains state accreditation standards and conducts annual review of standards;�\r\n Acts as liaison with law enforcement units, educational organizations, accreditation managers or other agencies;\r\n May participate in the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
\r\n\r\n Considerable knowledge of\r\n \r\n principles and practices of police training programs, educational methods, facilities, training aids and techniques and police accreditation programs;\r\n law enforcement practices and procedures;\r\n \r\n \r\n Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, regulations, policies and procedures;\r\n Considerable\r\n \r\n interpersonal skills;\r\n oral and written communication skills.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Seven (7) years of experience in criminal justice and law enforcement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in training at the level of Training Officer or in the area of police agency accreditation as an assessor or accreditation manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
\r\n College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.\r\n A Master's degree in criminal justice, education or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.\r\n\r\n
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n\r\n Experience in office administration, including scheduling, record management and professional correspondence.\r\n Experience managing competing priorities while maintaining detailed records and meeting deadlines.\r\n Experience communicating information through written and verbal communication in a professional setting.\r\n Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.\r\n Experience working within a chain of command structure.\r\n Experience maintaining confidential information in compliance with organizational policies.\r\n Experience collaborating with diverse groups, including academy staff, instructors, recruits and external agencies.\r\n Experience maintaining extensive documentation\r\n Experience in responding to unexpected challenges, such as last-minute changes and urgent administrative requests.\r\n Current or prior Connecticut POSTC Instructor Certification.\r\n\r\n\r\n
