PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g. requiring little prior experience or training; most tasks can be learned quickly on the job) in one or several of the following areas:\r\n\r\n\r\n Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial);\r\n Grounds care;\r\n Food services;\r\n Operation of trucks of less than five (5) ton capacity;\r\n Parking garage.\r\n\r\n\r\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

\r\n\r\n\r\n Provide a wide range of preventative maintenance activities in a Joint Commission accredited state hospital.\r\n Assist employees of a higher job class in all trade areas, assist with scheduling of state vehicle fleet maintenance.\r\n Escort / Assist contractors in the hospital, conduct fire watches and other safety watches during construction activities within the hospital and grounds.\r\n Provide office moves of equipment and furniture as directed, including assisting with asset management and equipment control.\r\n Courier runs and/or pickups between facilities.\r\n Maintenance management of state vehicles.\r\n Participation in medical equipment assembly, inventory control and inspection related activities.\r\n Responsible for assisting skill maintainer with grounds and landscaping activities at the hospital campus and other agency properties.\r\n Review and complete work orders and other inspection and accreditation related documentation on a daily basis or as otherwise required.\r\n See attached addendum for more examples.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

\r\n Skills\r\n \r\n interpersonal skills;�\r\n oral and written communication skills;�\r\n \r\n \r\n Ability to\r\n \r\n follow oral and written instructions;�\r\n learn policies and procedures;�\r\n operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work;�\r\n record keep.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience and training which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\n\r\n• Experience working in a hospital / healthcare setting\r\n• Experience in grounds maintenance / landscaping\r\n• Valid CT Driver’s License\r\n• Experience working with trucks, landscaping equipment, trailers, and equipment such as bobcat\r\n• Knowledge of and experience in preventative maintenance activities and best practices\r\n• Experience using a work order system\r\n• Experienced in the use of WORD and EXCEL computer software\r\n• Oral and written skills\r\n• Experience managing inventory and maintenance of small equipment and machines\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\n Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.\r\n A physical examination may be required.\r\n\r\n

WORKING CONDITIONS

\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients and/or clients.\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.\r\n\r\n
