The candidate selected for this position will be tasked with various duties, including but not limited to snow removal during winter months to ensure safe passage for students, faculty, and visitors on the Midtown and Westside campuses of Western Connecticut State University located in Danbury, CT.� �The maintainer's role is integral to the university's commitment to providing a safe and functional academic environment. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g. requiring little prior experience or training; most tasks can be learned quickly on the job) in one or several of the following areas:\r\n\r\n\r\n Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial);\r\n Grounds care;\r\n Food services;\r\n Operation of trucks of less than five (5) ton capacity;\r\n Parking garage.\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience and training which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate in their application:\r\n\r\n\r\n Prior custodial experience.\r\n Commercial/Industrial cleaning experience.\r\n Experience working in a large facility/multiple buildings.\r\n Experience operating, caring for & performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.\r\n Experience performing simple record keeping.\r\n Proven experience installing bulletin boards, pictures, shelving as well as move furniture.\r\n Experience with snow removal.\r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\n Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.\r\n A physical examination may be required.\r\n\r\n

WORKING CONDITIONS

\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients and/or clients.\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.\r\n\r\n
