A Medical Records Specialist 1 to join our Health Services Unit team at the Robinson Correctional Institution in Enfield, CT.\r\n2. Click here for more information.\r\n\r\nPOSITION HIGHLIGHTS\r\n• This position is full-time, following a first shift schedule, 40 hours per week, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.\r\n• Correctional facilities have unique medical records needs, with a specific concentration on\r\nrequesting records from community providers and preparing records for external sharing, following process, policy and privacy guidelines set by statute and agency policy.\r\n\r\nAs a Medical Records Specialist with the DOC, some of the responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:\r\n• Maintaining a file of medical records such as daily admissions and discharges, daily census, case histories, results of diagnostic tests, signed releases of information, medical summaries and abstracts;\r\n• Inspecting reports and records for omissions and errors;\r\n• Preparing statistical reports on such matters as classification of disease, laboratory, dental, X-ray and physiotherapy activities;\r\n• Performing related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nABOUT US\r\nThe Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) is a diverse agency with a wide variety of employees such as Correction Officers, Educators, Managers and Skilled Professionals. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state medical institution or facility medical records department this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks associated with maintaining medical records and medical records coding activities.\r\n
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
\r\n\r\n Assists in maintaining a file of medical records such as daily admissions and discharges, daily census, case histories, results of diagnostic tests, signed releases of information, medical summaries and abstracts;�\r\n Inspects reports and records for omissions and errors;�\r\n Codes and files a full range of diagnoses according to anatomical systems and in conformance with accepted international classification systems (i.e. ICD, WHO, DSM3, DRG, etc.);�\r\n Prepares statistical reports on such matters as classification of disease, laboratory, dental, X-ray and physiotherapy activities;�\r\n Prepares death certificates, burial permits and other related records;�\r\n Prepares reports to state and federal agencies as required;�\r\n May attend probate court hearings and give testimony;�\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
\r\n Knowledge of\r\n \r\n basic medical terminology and human anatomy;�\r\n medical coding principles and techniques with particular emphasis on International Classification of Disease Adopted procedures;�\r\n principles of statistical data tabulation;�\r\n office systems and procedures;�\r\n \r\n \r\n Skills\r\n \r\n interpersonal skills;\r\n oral and written communication skills.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance of medical records and preparation of statistical reports.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n Experience with electronic health records (E.H.R) which entail scanning and importing documents to E.H.R.\r\n Experience in processing requests to obtain/disclose protected health information.\r\n Experience using advanced functions of Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams, Outlook and OneDrive in a professional work setting\r\n Experience with or worked in a correctional facility or hospital setting.\r\n Experience in maintaining health records in accordance with HIPAA.\r\n\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents may be required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification by the time of permanent appointment.\r\n
