Learn more about Connecticut here.�\r\nYOUR ROLE\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIn this role, we would entrust you to work extensively with teachers and administration to help students improve their learning skills.�This position will report to the USD #2 Assistant Superintendent and will collaborate closely with the medical team.�Along with other duties as needed, in this role, you will:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Provide specific strategies for teaching and supporting students with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness;\r\n Collaborate with classroom teachers as well as support staff, monitor student progress, and coordinate assessments as necessary;\r\n Support student growth through teamwork.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMore details about this position can be found within the 'Example of Duties' and the class specification.\r\nABOUT US\r\n\r\nDCF has a mission to work together with families and communities so that children can grow up healthy, safe, smart, and strong.�\r\nOur Unified School District�\r\n\r\nUnified School District 2 (USD #2) is a school district\r\nestablished by Connecticut General Statute 17a-37 and which operates within the\r\nDepartment of Children and Families under the supervision of a Superintendent\r\nof Schools.\r\nIt provides educational services to students who reside in\r\nDCF facilities and whose treatment needs require they receive their education\r\nwithin the facility. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state institution, facility or region within a state unified school district this class teaches appropriate early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subjects and/or special education curricula to individuals enrolled in departmental education programs.\r\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

\r\n\r\n Teaches early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject and/or special education curricula;\r\n Develops educational plans for individuals and groups material level to students ability;\r\n Sets short and long term goals and evaluates progress of students;\r\n Participates in planning team meetings and case review conferences assessing student behavior;�\r\n Relates to professionals in ancillary educational roles;\r\n Maintains student records and writes reports;\r\n May hold conferences with parents or officials concerned with student's performance;\r\n Performs related work as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

\r\n Knowledge of\r\n \r\n the philosophy and methods of education and teaching;\r\n the principles and practices of education for special needs population;\r\n student program needs and goal setting;\r\n \r\n \r\n Ability to\r\n \r\n motivate students;\r\n communicate at the appropriate level;\r\n establish cooperative relationships with those contacted in work;\r\n prepare written reports.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Special education Certification 165.\r\n Experience working with students with mental health concerns in a hospital setting.\r\n Experience teaching multiple subject areas.\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\n Employment in this class is conditional upon possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate to the teaching assignment.\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator's license.\r\n\r\n
