The Water Group leads the NSW Government in providing confidence to communities and stakeholders with the transparent stewardship of water resources, provision of services and reforms that support sustainable and healthy environments, economies and societies across NSW.

The Water Group has multiple Assistant Water Planner opportunities, both ongoing and temporary, across our Coastal, Groundwater and Inland Surface Water teams.

The Assistant Water Planner provides planning, research and administrative support to enable the effective delivery of the NSW Government’s water planning processes. The role assists in the development, implementation and review of water plans by coordinating information, preparing documentation, engaging with stakeholders and supporting activities that contribute to sustainable water management outcomes for NSW.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Support stakeholder consultation and maintain effective communication networks.
  • Assist in developing and implementing water planning activities with agencies and stakeholders.
  • Research and analyse water policy and planning issues, contributing to reports, briefs and discussion papers.
  • Prepare accurate documentation and advice for Ministerial, Cabinet and departmental requests.
  • Support cross-agency collaboration to develop and resolve water management arrangements.
  • Track project delivery, maintain records and reporting, and ensure compliance with administrative processes.
  • Experience in water related areas such as water planning, natural resource management, environmental science, aquatic ecology, geomorphology, hydrogeology, hydrology, legislation, regulation and policy or equivalent.
