Lord Howe Island is located in the South Pacific Ocean approximately 700km north-east of Sydney and is part of NSW. The island has a high proportion of rare and endemic birds, plants, and invertebrates, and has the southernmost coral reef in the world. Three-quarters of the island is within the Permanent Park Preserve, which is managed similarly to a national park. There are approximately 445 residents, and tourism is the major industry and source of income on the island. Approximately 16,000 people visit the island each year and there are 21 accommodation lodges.

The Lord Howe Island Board (the Board) is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Lord Howe Island Act 1953. The Board is responsible to the NSW Minister for the Environment and comprises four islanders elected by the local community and three members appointed by the Minister. It is charged with the care, control and management of the island and the affairs and trade of the island. It is also responsible for the care, improvement and welfare of the island and residents.

Join the Lord Howe Island Board as a Field Officer Grade 2 and play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the island's infrastructure, natural environment and community assets. Based on beautiful Lord Howe Island, you'll undertake a diverse range of hands-on duties including maintaining walking tracks and public facilities, supporting pest and weed management, revegetation and threatened species conservation programs.

This is a physically active role where no two days are the same. Working both independently and as part of a close-knit team, you'll help preserve the island's outstanding natural and cultural heritage while ensuring residents and visitors continue to enjoy safe, high-quality facilities. You'll also support incident response activities and contribute to projects that enhance the long-term sustainability of the island community

We're seeking a practical, reliable and self-motivated individual who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in delivering quality outcomes. You'll be a strong team player with a proactive attitude, sound safety awareness and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Experience operating plant, equipment, vehicles and power tools will be highly regarded, along with an interest in land management, conservation, maintenance or construction activities.

To be successful, you'll demonstrate resilience, accountability and a collaborative approach to work. Most importantly, applicants must have secured accommodation on Lord Howe Island or have demonstrated arrangements in place to secure accommodation prior to commencement, due to the limited availability of housing on the island. • Current Australian drivers license (minimum class C).
• Ability to obtain CHEMCERT certification.
• Ability to obtain a First Aid Certificate.
• Ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) – applicants for an ASIC undergo a Criminal Check, a Politically Motivated Violence Check and a Citizenship Status Check.
