  • Based in Parramatta with hybrid working supported, other locations by negotiation
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $133,348 up to $146,945 pa

Responsibilities

The role involves reviewing safety management systems, audits, and incidents to ensure risks are effectively managed, promoting industry compliance, contributing to standards and guidelines development, and providing technical expertise on emerging renewable gas technologies, including hydrogen and biomethane.

 

Working closely with industry stakeholders, asset owners, and standards committees, you will promote regulatory compliance, contribute to Australian Standards and industry guideline development, support technical research initiatives, and provide specialist input into renewable gas programs, including hydrogen and biomethane, at both NSW and Commonwealth levels.

You are a trusted and capable technical professional with tertiary qualifications in Mechanical, Materials, Chemical, Mechatronic, Electrical or Process Engineering, or trade qualifications in plumbing or gas fitting, supported by experience within the utilities industry.

 

You have proven experience delivering technical projects, with a strong focus on operations, maintenance and asset management. Your sound understanding of engineering design principles, combined with your knowledge of the construction, operation and maintenance of pipelines and gas networks, enables you to effectively manage asset performance while maintaining a strong focus on safety and risk management.

 

Your experience includes:

  • Conducting field inspections, audits, compliance assessments and assurance activities against legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Reviewing and assessing compliance with Australian Standards, industry codes, internal procedures and regulatory requirements, with the ability to identify non-conformances and drive corrective actions.
  • Applying safety and integrity assurance processes, including Management of Change (MoC), risk assessment and hazard identification.
  • Interpreting technical information and applying sound engineering judgement to support safe and effective regulatory outcomes.
  • Contributing to the management and assurance of critical infrastructure assets, with experience in pipeline integrity management, regulatory compliance or asset assurance within transmission and/or distribution gas networks highly regarded.

 

You are proactive, self-motivated and solutions-focused, with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. You can build strong relationships and effectively influence outcomes across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, translating complex technical information into practical and meaningful outcomes.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of gas network and pipeline construction, operation, maintenance and safety including emergency management, gas measurement, damage mechanisms, external interference management and corrosion protection.
  • Awareness of relevant Standards especially AS 2885, AS 4645, AS 4564, AS 2832.1, industry codes, legislative and regulatory frameworks.
  • Some experience within the gas or liquids industries with a specific focus on pipeline and distribution infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of international codes such as API 5L, ASME B31.8, B31.4 and B31.12.
  • Tertiary qualifications in the following disciplines: Mechanical, Materials Chemical, Mechatronic, Electrical, Process Engineering (or equivalent trade qualifications and experience) or;
  • Trade qualifications in plumbing or gas fitting with experience in the utilities industry.
