Do you have strong leadership experience and technical expertise in water and wastewater systems?

DCCEEW is seeking an experienced Manager Inspections to lead regulatory inspections and monitoring of Local Water Utilities (LWUs) across regional NSW. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable water and sewerage services that support communities, industry and the environment.

About the Role

In this role, you will lead a specialist team and provide strategic, operational and technical oversight of inspection programs. You will:

  • Lead a team of inspectors undertaking regulatory functions under the Local Government Act, including inspections of water and sewage treatment works
  • Oversee escalation processes to ensure councils address safety, maintenance and operational risks
  • Provide expert advice to support capital works planning and infrastructure improvements
  • Manage risk-based inspection programs, ensuring high-quality reporting and recommendations
  • Oversee monitoring of services under the Aboriginal Communities Water and Sewerage Program (ACWSP)
  • Use data, including performance reporting and digital tools, to develop action plans and improve outcomes
  • Contribute to drought monitoring and risk advice to government
  • Support funding programs by providing technical input to infrastructure project assessments
  • Navigating complex legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks
  • Managing relationships with diverse stakeholders, including councils and government agencies
  • Balancing competing priorities in a dynamic and sometimes politically sensitive environment
  • Keeping across emerging industry developments and identifying best-value solutions

You are an experienced leader with strong technical and regulatory expertise. You will bring:

  • Proven experience managing teams and delivering inspection, compliance or regulatory programs
  • Strong knowledge of water and sewerage systems, infrastructure and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic advice and influence stakeholders
  • Highly developed communication skills and the ability to manage complex issues and negotiations
  • Strong analytical capability, including the use of data and performance insights
  • A commitment to integrity, accountability and public sector values
  • The ability to lead, coach and develop staff to achieve high performance outcomes
