The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment & Water (DCCEEW) is seeking  highly skilled and motivated Senior Financial Accountants to join our finance team.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical accounting expertise in a large, complex, and purpose-driven organisation. Working within our Financial Control and Reporting team, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong governance, and effective financial controls across the Department and its portfolio entities.

As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting across the Department and its portfolio entities. You will prepare and review statutory financial statements, Treasury reporting, financial consolidations, and key reporting work papers, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, NSW Treasury mandates, and legislative requirements.

You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing statutory annual financial statements and supporting work papers, coordinating monthly reporting to Treasury, facilitating early-close and year-end reporting processes, You will also work closely with business units, portfolio entities, NSW Treasury and the Audit Office of NSW, providing technical accounting advice on complex transactions and supporting compliance with reporting obligations.

A key focus of the role is maintaining and enhancing financial governance and controls. You will review reconciliations and supporting documentation, identify process improvement opportunities, strengthen control frameworks, and help ensure financial information is accurate, reliable and audit-ready.

This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting and financial reporting experience who is looking to further develop their technical expertise, broaden their stakeholder exposure, and grow their career within a large and diverse NSW Government organisation. You will gain valuable experience across financial reporting, governance, controls, Treasury reporting and external audit engagements, while contributing to meaningful outcomes for the people of NSW.

We are looking for a motivated accounting professional with strong financial reporting experience and a desire to continue developing their technical expertise and career within a large and complex organisation.

You will bring:

• Proven expertise in statutory financial reporting within government or a large, complex organisation
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and financial reporting requirements
• Experience reviewing reconciliations, supporting work papers, and financial controls to ensure accuracy, compliance and audit readiness
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to a range of stakeholders
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive working relationships across finance, business and external stakeholders
• The ability to work independently, take initiative, exercise sound judgement, and keep leadership informed of key issues and progress
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a flexible, solutions-focused approach
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes, even in high-volume or deadline-driven environments
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach and the ability to work effectively across a shared services and portfolio reporting environment
• A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, strengthening controls, and improving processes

This role is well suited to someone with a solid accounting foundation who is looking to broaden their experience, take on greater responsibility, and build a long-term career within DCCEEW. Experience in the NSW public sector is desirable but not essential.

• Degree Qualification in Accounting, Commerce or similar discipline and studying towards CPA/CA (or equivalent) full member status
