Program Dates: September 3rd – September 12th, 2026
Honoraria: Up to $200
Time Requirement: Up to 20 hours/week during the preparation period. O-Week programming will take place from September 3rd – September 12th, 2026. During this period, O-Week Leaders may be required to work extended shifts of up to 10 hours per day, including evenings and weekends.
O-Week Leaders will also be required to attend mandatory training sessions and brainstorming meetings prior to the start of programming to prepare for events, review expectations, and support successful execution of O-Week activities.
Position Overview
O-Week Leaders are enthusiastic student ambassadors who play a key role in welcoming new students to campus and creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging orientation experience. O-Week Leaders are responsible for assisting with the planning, promotion, and execution of Orientation Week activities while serving as a friendly and knowledgeable resource for incoming students.
As representatives of Dalhousie Student Union and the institution, O-Week Leaders help foster a sense of belonging, community, and school spirit. They are expected to demonstrate professionalism, leadership, teamwork, and excellent customer service while supporting students throughout Orientation Week.
This position reports directly to the Programming and Events Manager. O-Week Leaders work closely with fellow leaders, staff members, volunteers, and campus partners to ensure the successful delivery of orientation programming.
In all activities, O-Week Leaders must recognize that supporting student success, engagement, and well-being is a top priority.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome and assist new students during O-Week activities and events.
- Serve as a positive role model and ambassador for the Student Union and campus community.
- Assist with event setup, registration, crowd management, wayfinding, and event teardown.
- Facilitate small group activities, icebreakers, campus tours, and engagement opportunities.
- Promote O-Week events and activities through in-person interactions and social media.
- Assist with the execution of on and off-campus student activities, events, and programming to ensure students are involved, hyped, engaged, and informed
- Perform event-related duties and tasks as assigned to ensure a seamless execution of events (tasks vary per event but could include any combination of set-up, tear-down, food service, face-to-face interaction with students, assisting entertainers & vendors, acting as a stagehand, and other duties as assigned)
- Frequently lifting and moving objects of up to 50 lbs (Boxes, Chairs, Tables etc.)
- Distribute and tote bags, and assist in the setup and tear-down of such distribution events
- Mandatory attendance at meetings and training days
- Other duties as assigned
