This position is considered a field position and will not be required to report into a physical office on daily basis but based on operational need.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Conducting complex and comprehensive industrial hygiene (IH) surveys (e.g., assessing air contaminants, noise, heat stress, ventilation, and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)) at employer worksites.
• Preparing technical written reports detailing IH sampling results and actionable recommendations.
• Creating and delivering occupational safety and health training.
• Providing IH subject matter content and review for internal and external communications.
• Identifying potential safety and/or ergonomic risks and making referrals to safety consultants or ergonomists, as appropriate.
• Supporting Division of Safety & Hygiene outreach initiatives such as the Safety Intervention Grant, Ohio Safety Congress, and Safety Council programs.

Completion of undergraduate core program in environmental health, physical/natural science or engineering; 12 mos. exp. in private sector or other governmental agency performing same or comparable duties of Industrial Safety Hygienist 3, 24473; valid driver's license. 

-Or 12 mos. exp. as Industrial Safety Hygienist 3, 24473; valid driver's license. 

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. 

Job Skills: Occupational Safety

Major Worker Characteristics:

Knowledge of:  employee training & development techniques, general industry and construction safety practices, basic ergonomic principles, public relations, BWC policies & procedures*, occupational safety & health consensus standards, codes, & best practices (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, ASTM); rules & regulations pertaining to occupational safety & health (e.g. OSHA standards), principles of safety management, basic engineering principles (ventilation, machine guarding, etc.); investigation principles & techniques; physical sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, biology, toxicology); technical writing.

Skill in:  Computer use including MS Office products & IH equipment software, statistical software; operation of typical office equipment such as computer, calculator, digital camera, printer, scanner & photocopier.  Comprehensive skill in operation of industrial hygiene assessment equipment including, but not limited to: sound level meter, octave band analyzer, acoustical calibrator, noise dosimeter, multi-flow air sampling pumps, primary & secondary calibrators for air sampling pumps, direct-reading aerosol monitors, toxic/flammable gas monitors and associated calibration devices, heat/cold stress monitors, indoor air quality (IAQ) monitors, air velocity/air flow meters, moisture meters and infrared camera.

Ability to:  deal with many variables & determine specific action, ability to communicate effectively, orally & in writing, write complex technical reports; read, copy & record figures accurately, use statistical analysis, complete routine forms, maintain accurate records, understand manuals & verbal instructions, technical in nature, prepare meaningful, concise & accurate technical reports, use proper research methods in gathering data, prepare & deliver speeches before  specialized audiences & general public, write &/or edit articles for publication,  write &/or edit technical, scientific or advanced literary publications, gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things, handle sensitive inquiries from employers, employees & union pertaining to industrial hygiene/occupational safety issues.

BWC OCSEA Selection Rights:
This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. BWC bargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. Salary Information:
Hourly wage is expected to be paid at step 1 of the pay range associated with the position for candidates who are new employees of the state.  Current employees of the state will be placed in the appropriate step based on any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code.
