📍 Location: Washington, DC
🏢 Work Model: hybrid/primarily onsite traveling role supporting approximately 6 hospital locations within the MedStar
🕒 Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8am-4:30pm est
💼 Status: Full-Time

We are seeking an Area Lead to support multiple MedStar locations across the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. regions. This role is essential to ensuring operational excellence, service continuity, and compliance across multiple locations. Travel is a mandatory component of this position, as schedules may fluctuate based on site needs, contractual obligations, PTO coverage, and unexpected call-outs.

Responsibilities

The Area Lead plays a critical role in maintaining smooth operations and delivering high-quality patient health information services across multiple sites. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide on-site coverage across multiple locations, adjusting schedules as needed
  • Assist with onboarding new employees, supporting training sessions, and mentoring HIS staff
  • Act as a liaison between facility staff and company leadership, ensuring strong client relationships
  • Communicate site challenges, fluctuating volumes, staffing needs, and operational updates proactively
  • Support strategic initiatives aimed at improving productivity, workflows, and service quality
  • Process medical record and ROI requests accurately, timely, and with strict confidentiality
  • Manage high-volume inbound and outbound calls from patients, providers, and requestors
  • Provide status updates, resolve inquiries, and escalate complex issues when appropriate
  • Handle fax and mail operations, including sorting, routing, sending, and maintaining accurate logs
  • Review requests, date-stamp documents, and upload information into HealthSource
  • Monitor shared drives, fax queues, and medical records email to ensure timely processing
  • Create encrypted CDs/DVDs of patient records, maintain chain-of-custody documentation, and ensure correct labeling
  • Assist patients requesting records in person by verifying identity and processing disclosures
  • Monitor and complete patient transfers throughout the day
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA and privacy regulations at all times
  • Uphold company and customer codes of conduct
  • Maintain working knowledge of facility software systems and site-specific workflows
  • Support productivity standards and help minimize operational risk across the region

We are seeking a candidate who is:

  • Friendly, professional, and dependable
  • Punctual — attendance is critical in this role
  • Adaptable and comfortable with schedule changes and regular travel
  • A strong communicator (verbal and written)
  • Eager to learn and able to master new systems and processes quickly
  • Experienced in leading or supporting a small team (preferred)
  • Motivated to grow within a healthcare or medical records environment
  • Experienced with ROI or EMR systems (required)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to work on-site at locations across Baltimore and Washington, D.C. regions
  • Proficiency with computers, email systems, and general office equipment
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
  • Prior healthcare, medical office, or HIM experience is a plus
  • Supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred

 

Pay ranges for this job title may differ based on location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other requirements of the role. 

The estimated base pay range per hour for this role is:
$19.85$26.15 USD
