Responsibilities
Protects public health, safety, private property and investment by inspecting installations, repairs, alterations, construction or demolition to new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with construction codes.� These inspections range from single family residences to high rise office buildings, schools, hospitals and manufacturing plants.� Must use communication skills with contractors, violators and complainants to achieve code compliance and if necessary, serves as an expert witness for prosecution of code violators.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
Education\r\n\r\nGraduation from high school (or G.E.D.).\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience�\r\nMust have a current State of Ohio full building inspector certification�\r\n\r\n\r\nOR�\r\n\r\n\r\n3 years of experience as a construction contractor or supervisor for non-residential buildings or structures within the\r\nscope of groups regulated by the rules of the Board of Building Standards;�\r\n\r\n\r\nOR�\r\n\r\n\r\n3 years of\r\nexperience as a skilled tradesman for work subject to inspection under a non-residential building code;�\r\n\r\n\r\nOR�\r\n\r\n\r\nSuccessful completion of a trainee program pursuant to Ohio Building Code Section 103.3.12.�\r\n\r\n\r\nApplicants that do\r\nnot have a current State of Ohio building inspector certification must obtain their building full inspector\r\ncertification, pursuant to Ohio Building Code Section 103.3.6, prior to the end of their two-year interim certification.\r\n\r\n\r\n
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.\r\n
General Requirements
Applicants who do not have a current full State of Ohio Building Inspector Certification at time of appointment must obtain said Certification, pursuant to Ohio Building Code Section 103.3.6, prior to the end of their 2 year interim certification.\r\n\r\n

Must hold either an interim or full State of Ohio Building Inspector Certification�at time of application.\r\n

\r\nExamination dates and times are subject to change.�Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination.�Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.\r\n\r\nBackground Check�\r\nA background investigation is required prior to employment.�All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.�\r\n�\r\nDrug and Nicotine Testing�\r\nFinal appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.�\r\n�\r\n
