Through the delivery of daily animal care and feeding, this role plays a key part in maintaining animal welfare and enabling high-quality scientific research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide husbandry and animal care support across aquatic (including Zebrafish), aviary, wildlife and rodent facilities, including sanitisation, plant maintenance, and water quality monitoring.
  • Ensure animals are fed daily in accordance with all feeding protocols.
  • Monitor animal health and wellbeing daily, ensuring appropriate care, clean food and water, and an enriched living environment
  • Maintain accurate records of animal history and related data as required.
  • Support ethical animal care and use by maintaining accurate records and compliance with animal ethics and regulatory requirements.
  • Completion of an Associate Diploma level qualifications with relevant work experience or a certificate level qualification with post-certificate relevant work experience.
  • Completion of a post-Trades Certificate or Advanced Certificate and extensive relevant and on the job training; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience in the care of animals e.g aquatic, avian, wildlife and rodent species.
  • Knowledge of animal use in research and teaching in a broad range.
  • Availability to work outside business hours, weekends, public holidays and on-call shifts
