At Designer Brands, our distribution centers are at the heart of delivering great experiences to our customers. As an Inventory Control Supervisor, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of inventory operations that support our stores and eCommerce business.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader who enjoys solving problems, developing people, and driving continuous improvement. You'll lead a team responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy, investigating discrepancies, and supporting operational excellence across the distribution center. By partnering with Operations, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams, you'll help create solutions that keep product moving, support customer commitments, and improve overall performance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily Inventory Control activities to support inventory accuracy and operational goals.
  • Coordinate cycle counting, inventory audits, reconciliations, and inventory adjustments.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy, shrink, and compliance metrics and communicate results to leadership.
  • Ensure inventory records are accurate and maintained in accordance with customer service expectations and operational requirements.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and partner with Operations and other teams to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Maintain inventory integrity through effective system monitoring, transaction management, and process adherence.
  • Analyze inventory and operational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare inventory-related operational and customer reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with customer requirements, company policies, and inventory control standards.
  • Support internal, customer, financial, and regulatory audits.
  • Promote adherence to inventory control best practices and established processes.
  • Train, coach, and support associates through performance management and development planning.
  • Create opportunities for growth through knowledge sharing, skill development, and succession planning.
  • Ensure team members have the tools, training, and resources needed to perform successfully.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
  • Support compliance with workplace safety standards and company policies.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance inventory processes and operational efficiency.
  • Encourage teamwork and a customer-focused mindset across the operation.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in inventory control, distribution center operations, logistics, or supply chain environments.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience within a warehouse or distribution center setting.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control principles, warehouse operations, and distribution center processes.
  • Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), inventory movement, and inventory reconciliation processes.
  • Experience with inventory management platforms such as Manhattan, JDA, SAP, DMPLUS, WCS, or similar systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends and resolve inventory-related issues.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate inventory and operational data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage performance, and support employee development.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of inventory control, compliance, and audit best practices.

Requirements

  • Experience in retail, wholesale, eCommerce, or third-party logistics environments.
  • Knowledge of inventory control methodologies and continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience supporting customer, financial, or regulatory audits.
  • Advanced knowledge of RF technology and system-directed warehouse processes.
  • Experience managing inventory accuracy, cycle counting, and reconciliation processes.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and four (4) years of relevant experience.
