The Detroit Regional Chamber is seeking a dynamic and creative Intern, Strategic Communications to join our Detroit Promise team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about storytelling, content creation, and audience engagement. This role will support the Detroit Promise team by creating and managing digital content, enhancing brand presence, and engaging with our community through various audience focused content and meaningful stories.

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS INTERN QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current college senior, recent grad from a four-year program or graduate student pursing or holding a degree in communications or other related fields. (must provide portfolio)
• Demonstrate strong writing, editing and storytelling skills.
• Experience in social media creation, presentations, newsletters, video, photography and other digital communications
• Interested in education, non-profit communications, community engagement and student success strongly encouraged.

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Communications & Content:

• • Contribute to the planning and implementation of Detroit Promise's communications and social media strategies.
  • Develop, draft, edit, and format content for social media, newsletters, the website, presentations, campaigns, and other communications platforms.
  • Coordinate content around Detroit Promise programs, events, announcements, campaigns, and key student deadlines.
  • Help maintain the communications calendar and manage content deadlines across multiple channels.

• • Support digital communications and social media strategy through content planning, research, and audience-engagement ideas.
  • Develop social media concepts, captions, short form copy, and multimedia content for team review.
  • Adapt organizational messaging for different digital platforms and audiences.
  • Coordinate content around Detroit Promise programs, campaigns, events, and key student deadlines.
  • Monitor platform trends, audience feedback, and engagement metrics to help inform content recommendations.

• • Assist with identifying stories that highlight Detroit Promise students, alumni, programs, partners, and community impact.
  • Conduct interviews and gather quotes, photographs, videos, and other story elements with staff guidance.
  • Assist in developing student spotlights, program features, partner highlights, and other mission-focused content.
  • Support developing communications materials for outreach to students, families, schools, college partners, and community organizations.
  • Attend selected outreach activities to capture stories and develop content for Detroit Promise communications

Events & Brand Support

• Support the communications and promotional needs of Detroit Promise events and external-facing initiatives.
• Attend selected events to capture photographs, videos, interviews, and event highlights.
• Assist with developing event materials, presentations, recaps, and supporting content.

WORK SCHEDULE FOR THE STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

This internship is part-time and will work 15-20 hours per week. This position is temporary, we are looking for someone to be available thru June 2027 with the possibility to extend. The hours/ days of work are flexible but should fall between Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. The person in this role may need to occasionally travel throughout Southeastern Michigan. There are also may be opportunities to work from home.
