The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond is one of the largest comprehensive art museums in the United States. VMFA’s growing encyclopedic collection houses more than 50,000 works of art spanning 6,000 years of world history.

Our holdings include the largest public collection of Fabergé outside of Russia, the finest collection of Art Nouveau outside of Paris and one of the nation’s finest collections of American art. At the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), we create unique dining experiences.

Floris tearoom is an inclusive experience based around the traditions and habits of tea and high tea service around the world. We aim to bring a refreshed interpretation of what a tearoom can be. Our rotating menu is inspired by various tea-centric culinary regions.

When dining at Floris, every aspect of the meal is a touchpoint, a foundational pinning, evoking the right ambiance, feeling, and desired energy. Our dedicated service professionals bear witness and make possible some of the best days ever for our guests.

All VMFA staff enjoy free admission to special exhibitions, previews of special exhibitions, employee pricing for select museum programs and classes, and discounts at Amuse, Floris, Best Café and the VMFA Shop.

 

The team works to provide reasonable and advanced-scheduling notice to staff within the agreed upon availability. We are open 365 days a year, therefore there are a variety of shifts to work.

The Floris Server assists the service management of Floris at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Reporting to the Floris Manager, this front-of-house position is responsible for ensuring excellent guest service.

Here is how our Floris Server accomplishes this as part of a team:

• Greet guests with a friendly and welcoming demeanor. Accurately accept guests’ food and drink orders.

• Serve patrons food and beverages.

• Accurately communicate guest’s order to chefs. Collect payment from guests.

• Assist in setting tables and rearranging the dining area to accommodate larger groups, private parties or as needed.

• Deliver a memorable dining experience by resolving all customer issues promptly. Provide attentive service to diners, like refilling drinks as needed and checking their needs during meals.

• Maintain table settings to include replenishing utensils, filling water glasses, and removing courses as completed.

• Anticipate and accommodate guest needs, respond to requests in a professional and polite manner.

• Perform some cleaning duties, such as at the service station, around the kitchen and in the dining area.

Requirements

• Prior fine dining, tearoom or food service experience, particularly in a fast-paced environment.

• Knowledge of ABC best practices and regulations; RSVP or TIPS training. Knowledge of fine dining, tea, beer, wine and food.

• ServSafe Food Handler’s certification.

Selected candidates must pass a criminal history background check.
