Job Duties

The central Virginia Health District consists of the city of Lynchburg, the counties of Appomattox, Amherst, Bedford and Campbell.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. Central Virginia Health Dept (CVA) seeks an experienced resource to fill the critical role of a Nutritionist Associate.

The Nutritionist Associate independently determines nutrition eligibility of
applicants/clients within program guidelines and independently prescribes
appropriate food packages. Assesses nutritional status/eligibility for program services
by: dietary recall/food frequency history, assessing growth patterns, weight patterns,
biochemical values and medical history. Independently sets dietary goals based on
the assessment. Provides patient counseling specific to the individual’s nutritional
needs. Makes referrals for high risk counseling with Nutritionist when appropriate.

Please note:

This is a restricted position which is solely funded by the WIC Program for a 1-year period ending September 30th each year. The availability of funding is scheduled for review before the grant expiration date and periodically thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-grant funds.

Minimum Qualifications

Possess basic knowledge of nutrition and nutritional standards
• Must complete required training to obtain the Certification as a
Competent Professional Authority (CPA) within 6 months of hire
• Demonstrated ability to: interview clients & collect client information;
interpret, document, calculate & compile routine data; routinely obtain
blood sample/finger stick; provide patient education
• Must be able to communicate and interact with a variety of patients and
work effectively as a member of a health care team
• Skills using computer systems and systems required to support the
programs

Additional Considerations

High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course
work in nutrition or related field
• Training or course work in Dietetics, food services, or a related area
