About the Agency
The Virginia Department of Fire Programs serves the citizens of the Commonwealth by enhancing public safety through supplemental funding to local governments, education, training to first responders, fire prevention and life safety education through community risk reduction and statewide fire code enforcement.
About the Position
The Testing and Certification Coordinator supports the Training and Operations Branch through the coordination and administration of statewide testing and certification operations. This position ensures accurate, consistent, secure, and timely administration of testing, certification processing, credential records, and related business processes.
The position coordinates computer-based and traditional testing operations, certification processing, testing records, examination security, quality assurance activities, and customer support. The coordinator serves as a subject matter expert for testing and certification processes and systems and works collaboratively with the Testing and Certification Manager, Training and Operations Brach leadership, Division Chiefs, adjunct instructors, evaluators, internal staff, accreditation partners, and external fire service stakeholders. The position assists in developing, documenting, implementing, auditing, and continuously improving standardized testing and certification procedures to support consistency, regulatory and accreditation requirements, data integrity, and effective statewide service delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
•Experience coordinating testing, certification, credentialing, training administration, records management, or comparable program operations.
•Experience working with enterprise information systems such as a Learning Management System, Training Management System, computer-based testing platform, records management system, or comparable databases.
•Knowledge of fire and emergency services training and certification programs.
•Knowledge of accreditation, assessment, testing security, quality assurance, or credentialing practices.
•Experience interpreting and applying policies, standards, procedures, or regulatory requirements.
•Experience providing training, technical assistance, coaching, or guidance to employees or stakeholders.
•Experience communicating orally and in writing with demonstrated ability to provide customer service, communicate business procedures, and the ability to draft and document standardized business processes.
•Experience demonstrating extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Additional Considerations
•Experience administering fire service testing and certification programs.
•Knowledge of Pro Board and IFSAC accreditation requirements.
•Experience administering or supporting computer-based testing.
•Experience conducting examination/item analysis, quality assurance reviews, audits, or data validation.
•Experience developing standardized operating procedures, testing protocols, administrative guides, or training materials.
•Experience working collaboratively with instructors, evaluators, SMEs, Division Chiefs, or other fire service stakeholders.
•Experience with Cornerstone, Acadis, Vector Solutions, Questionmark/CBT enterprise software, or comparable systems.
