PRIMARY ROLE:
The Pharmacist is accountable to the Senior Pharmacist to function within the scope and guidelines as set out by the Health Practice Commission & Pharmacy Council and Laws of the Cayman Islands.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES RELATING TO THE DISPENSING OF MEDICATIONS BY:
• Counselling patients.
• Providing drug information to Patients, Nurses, Physicians and other Healthcare Professionals.
• Introducing professional services to patients such as follow up phone calls.
• Pharmaco-therapy monitoring.
• Conducting in-service training for staff.
• Keep patient profiles current on a patient by patient basis.
• Developing & maintaining patient information tools.
• Filling and checking prescriptions (new as well as refills, including obtaining authorization for refills and taking verbal orders for new prescriptions).
• Bulk compounding and individual patient compounding.
• Assisting Technicians in inventory control and ordering Pharmaceuticals.
• Proper pricing of prescriptions when Pharmacy Technicians not available.
• Other professional services in-line with Pharmacist services as required by Management.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
• Should endeavor to keep abreast of new developments in the field by reading, visiting other facilities and attending seminars and workshops.
• Must comply with CE requirements of the Pharmacy Council.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS - DELIVERING IMPROVED CUSTOMER CARE BY:
• Providing excellent customer service utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills.
• Professional and polite telephone, fax and email communication and etiquette.
• Enhancing customer trust by maintaining confidentiality.
• Maintaining cordial and professional relations on a daily basis with clients, colleagues and other health care professionals.
• Performing any other duties deemed necessary by the Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be qualified as a Pharmacist as per qualifications of Pharmacy Council.
• Minimum 3 years as a practicing pharmacist, ideally in both retail and hospital settings.
• Must be registered in the Cayman Islands as per the Pharmacy Council.
• Must possess good communication skills.
• Should endeavor to keep abreast of new developments in the field by reading and attending seminars and workshops.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Pharmacist will be accountable to the Senior Pharmacist.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Requires standing for long periods of time.
• Requires light lifting (up to 15 pounds) and repetitious physical activity
• Requires ability to work in fast paced environment.
• Requires positive personality and consistent interpersonal skills.
• Requires professional dress and appearance. Well-groomed, with minimal perfume.
