Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, drivetrain components, electrical systems, and emissions systems across a diverse fleet of cars, trucks, and heavy equipment
- Perform and document routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, brake inspections, and tune-ups
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel-specific systems including fuel injection, turbochargers, DEF/emissions systems, and high-pressure common rail systems
- Inspect and repair or replace worn, broken, or malfunctioning components such as belts, hoses, suspension parts, and hydraulic systems
- Identify fluid leaks, electrical faults, and mechanical failures using diagnostic tools and equipment
- Schedule and advise on future maintenance needs to maximize vehicle longevity and minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate service logs, repair records, and parts usage documentation
- Keep all shop tools, lifts, and diagnostic equipment clean, calibrated, and in safe working condition
- Adhere strictly to all workplace safety protocols, OSHA standards, and environmental regulations regarding hazardous fluids and chemicals
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a mechanic with demonstrated diesel engine expertise (commercial trucks, heavy equipment, or fleet vehicles strongly preferred)
- In-depth knowledge of diesel fuel systems, electrical/electronic diagnostics, and emissions compliance
- Proficiency with diagnostic software and scan tools (e.g., Cummins INSITE, Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link, or equivalent)
- Ability to operate shop equipment including hydraulic lifts, presses, and pneumatic tools safely and effectively
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Excellent physical stamina and the ability to work in varying environmental conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a vocational/technical program or formal apprenticeship preferred
- ASE Certification required; ASE Medium/Heavy Truck (T-series) or equivalent diesel certification strongly preferred
- Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus
