As our Facilities Maintenance Technician, you'll help keep East River's buildings, grounds, and facility systems safe, reliable, and ready to support the people who power our cooperative. If you have experience in construction, mechanical systems, electrical work, or HVAC-and enjoy solving problems and tackling a variety of projects-we'd love to hear from you.

At East River Electric Power Cooperative we're dedicated to providing reliable and affordable wholesale power to our members across 40,000 square miles of service area. As a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative, we provide electricity to 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally owned electric system serving eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Our members, in turn, power the lives of the member-owners in their service territories.

What You'll Accomplish

You'll work alongside passionate professionals who embody the cooperative values of integrity, accountability, innovation, and commitment to community. We believe in investing in your growth and development, which is why we offer paid training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and advance your career. In this position you will:

  • Keep our facilities running smoothly by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical and building systems.
  • Tackle a variety of indoor and outdoor projects-from remodeling and drywall to finish carpentry, flooring, ceiling tile, doors, and windows.
  • Help prevent problems before they happen by completing regular inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Keep maintenance records, blueprints, and schematics accurate and up to date.
  • Stay familiar with building products and practical solutions that make maintenance and repair work more effective.
  • Make sure the right equipment and supplies are on hand, and purchase materials within established guidelines.
  • Put your skills to work using a variety of tools and equipment, including carpentry tools, volt/ohm meters, and pressure gauges.
  • Build strong working relationships with employees, vendors, and other facilities maintenance partners.
  • Pitch in where needed, look out for your coworkers, and keep safety at the heart of everything you do.

Showcase Your Knowledge, Abilities, and Expertise. Do you have?

  • An associate degree from a technical school focused on residential or commercial construction, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems-and hands-on experience in at least one of those areas
  • A combination of relevant education and hands-on experience is highly desired
  • A valid driver's license
  • An eye for detail and a practical, can-do approach to solving problems
  • The ability to stay organized, manage your time, work independently, and communicate clearly with others
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and other computer technology
  • A collaborative, customer-friendly approach and the ability to build positive working relationships
