GENERAL SUMMARY:

As an Experienced Routesetter, you are someone who has a strong understanding of the fundamentals of routesetting,  is passionate about climbing movement and creating meaningful experiences. You are self-driven, reliable, and excited by the prospect of providing an amazing climbing experience to the Edgeworks community.  

Driven by their passion to create unique movement, we are looking for someone who thrives in a team-oriented environment and has a can-do attitude.  The Experienced Routesetter is tasked with mentoring lower level setters, and knows the importance of direct communication.  They regularly provide and solicit feedback as a part of a collaborative routesetting team that supports one another’s growth.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL:

• Arrive on time and get to work in a timely manner
• Take initiative during “down-time” to organize, clean & keep themselves busy
• Help curate the best possible experience for our community
• Strive to innovate and expand upon what the Routesetting department can do

ROUTESETTING AND MAINTENANCE:

• Set and/or remove 2-5 times per week
• Experiment with different setting styles, innovating and co-creating with the rest of the team while being mindful of the varying needs of a wide range of types of climbers in the community
• Take an active part in generating new ideas about how the Routesetting Department can differentiate itself and develop the Edgeworks Setting Brand
• Follow best practices for work area safety and follow all risk management protocols
• Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of Climbing terrain, Ropes, Routesetting Equipment / PPE.
• Ensure general maintenance of walls and work product, including
  • Ensure all holds and volumes are appropriately bolted to the wall and/or set screwed in accordance to Edgeworks standards
  • Ensure all routes and problems are set in a functionally creative manner that adheres to the Edgeworks setting brand
  • Ensure all the workspaces are cleaned prior to being opened to the public
• Keep the hold room and other workspaces clean and organized 
• Set for competitions and events

TEAMWORK AND COMMUNICATION:

• Ability to communicate effectively, empathetically, and in a timely manner with the Routesetting Leadership team and other setters.
• Ability to manage difficult circumstances with a positive attitude

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

MUST-HAVES:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Passion for climbing and the craft of routesetting
• Ability to seek and accept, as well as give, critical feedback in a professional manner
• The mentality of a team player and the ability to follow directions
• A drive to grow professionally
• An understanding and ability to demonstrate climbing movement up to 5.11 and/or V5
• Ability to forerun lead routes, top rope routes, and boulder problems 

      

NICE-TO-HAVES:

• 1-2 years of prior commercial routesetting experience
• USAC Certification
• CWA Certification
• Ability to demonstrate climbing movement up to 5.12 and V6

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Frequently perform Work at Height using climbing gear, rigging, lifts, or ladders.
• Walking up/down stairs and gripping with hands.
• Regularly climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and smelling.
• Frequent manual dexterity, using both hands simultaneously, reaching overhead, walking on various surfaces.
• Regularly lifting/moving of objects up to 5lbs, frequent lifting/moving up to 25lbs, and occasional lifting/moving up to 50lbs.
