ONE (1) ASSISTANT RESEARCHER B’ POSITION AT THE RESILIENT SOCIETY DEPARTMENT 

 
ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (www.eratosthenes.org.cy) of Cyprus University of Technology (www.cut.ac.cy) invites applications for one (1) position at the Assistant Researcher B’ level at the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The position is open either on a full-time (100%) or part-time employment basis. The successful candidate will work under Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence for the services entitled “Study, analysis and application of artificial intelligence technologies for the development and evaluation of an interdepartmental artificial intelligence system intelligence system for the needs of the taxation department” funded by the Tax Department. 
 
ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has more than 17-years experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. Through the ‘EXCELSIOR’ H2020 Teaming Project (https://excelsior2020.eu/), ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus’ development. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region. 
 
A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated. 
 
Brief Description of the service  
 
The position will involve working on the aforementioned project.  
The project involves specialized services for the study, analysis and application of Artificial Intelligence technologies for the purpose of developing and evaluating the implementation of an intra-departmental artificial intelligence system that will support decision-making and statistical analysis for the needs of the Taxation Department. 
 
Description of the Position 

This position concerns researchers with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. 

Duties and Responsibilities
 
The successful candidate will be placed in the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, and is expected to contribute towards shaping and advancing its research and innovation agenda by working on the project stated above as the Study, analysis and application of artificial intelligence technologies for the development and evaluation of an interdepartmental artificial intelligence system intelligence system for the needs of the taxation department” and by fulfilling the following tasks: 

  1. Conduct a preliminary analysis of existing data and business processes; 
  2. Assess data readiness and data governance considerations; 
  3. Contribute to the design and development of a proof-of-concept or pilot demonstration; 
  4. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and subject-matter experts; 
  5. Participation in the preparation and submission of project deliverables; 
  6. Organization / Participation in meetings with the funding team; 
  7. Undertaking any other relevant duties deemed necessary. 
Qualifications 

  1. B.Sc. in Computer Engineering, or Informatics or other relevant subject; 
  2. Proficiency in software use and programming skills such as Python, Java, PHP and C++; 
  3. Previous experience in the field of software development; 
  4. Previous experience in data management, data lakes and systems architecture; 
  5. Advanced knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing is required; 
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; 
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; 
  8. Ability to manage complex tasks within defined timelines; 
  9. High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion, particularly when handling sensitive data. 
The appointment will be for six (6) months or until the end of the project (which ever comes last). The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will range from   €20323.80 to €24216.57, depending on qualifications. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration).
