ResearcherRecruitment & Talent Acquisition
## Join our Team About this opportunity: Are you passionate about wireless communication and eager to shape the future of Wi-Fi? Join Ericsson Research, a global leader in communication technology, and contribute to the evolution of advanced 802.11-based networks! Wi-Fi continues to expand beyond traditional local-area networking. It is becoming an essential technology for enterprise connectivity, industrial automation, extended reality, smart homes, dense public environments, and integrated wireless ecosystems. At Ericsson Research, we explore how Wi-Fi can deliver greater capacity, reliability, efficiency, flexibility, and intelligence while working together with cellular technologies. We are seeking a talented and motivated researcher to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development of future Wi-Fi technologies. You will have the opportunity to investigate innovative concepts, evaluate emerging 802.11 features, influence standardization, and help shape product and network solutions for next-generation wireless connectivity. As a Wi-Fi researcher at Ericsson, you will work at the intersection of wireless communications, networking, signal processing, standards, and system architecture. Your contributions may span both physical layer and medium access control layer, network coordination, Wi-Fi and cellular integration, and intelligent radio resource management. Shape the future of wireless connectivity with us—be at the forefront of Wi-Fi innovation! What you will do: * Develop advanced Wi-Fi concepts: Lead and contribute to innovative technologies for current and future 802.11 systems, including Wi-Fi 9 and beyond. * Explore PHY and MAC-layer technologies: Investigate topics such as OFDMA, MU-MIMO, multi-link operation, channel access mechanisms, extended long-range, scheduling, resource allocation, AI4PHY, AI4MAC and advanced signal processing. * Advance Wi-Fi performance and reliability: Develop solutions for high-density deployments, industrial environments, enterprise networks, challenging propagation conditions, and applications requiring low latency or high reliability. * Investigate Wi-Fi and cellular integration: Explore coordinated and complementary operation between Wi-Fi and 3GPP networks, including traffic steering, multi-access connectivity, common network control, seamless mobility, and integrated Wi-Fi/cellular solutions. * Drive innovation: Identify new opportunities for Wi-Fi through research in areas such as distributed MIMO, AI/ML for wireless systems, intelligent resource management, spectrum sharing, network automation, wireless sensing, and energy-efficient communication. * IEEE 802.11 standardization: Attend and actively participate in IEEE 802.11 standardization meetings and other industry fora, to promote technical contributions, and contribute to future Wi-Fi specifications. * Use simulations and prototypes: Design and implement system-level and link-level simulations, analytical evaluations, testbed experiments, and proof-of-concept demonstrations to validate new concepts and assess their practical feasibility. * Evaluate real-world performance: Study Wi-Fi behavior in realistic environments, including interference, mobility, hidden-node conditions, dense deployments, heterogeneous networks, and coexistence with other radio technologies. * Collaborate across the organization: Work closely with researchers and experts in radio, networking, AI, devices, cloud platforms, and product development to translate research results into compelling technical and business opportunities. * Build external partnerships: Establish productive collaborations with universities, industry partners, standards organizations, and other stakeholders in the global Wi-Fi ecosystem. The skills you bring: * A PhD or experienced MSc., or equivalent, in wireless communications, signal processing, automatic control, mathematical statistics, or a related field. Preferably, but not necessarily, with a specialization towards radio and physical layer aspects of wireless communication. * Analytically and creatively thinking with a strong personal drive, perseverance, and focus on delivering high-quality results. * Able to formulate research problems, develop innovative solutions, analyze performance, and communicate results clearly. * Experienced from one or both of physical layer and medium access control layer design. * Skilled in programming, in particular with building or using link and system level simulators, for example in Matlab, Python, C++ or Java. * Excellent in written and verbal communication, with the ability to work effectively in international, cross-functional, and collaborative environments. * Proficient in using AI, e.g., Claude and KIRO, for both programming and general tasks. * Merited with a record of publications, patents, technical contributions, or participation in standardization activities related to wireless communications or networking is a plus. * Willing to travel internationally. Why join us? At Ericsson Research, you will work with world-class experts across wireless communication, networking, software, hardware, and artificial intelligence. As an IEEE standardization delegate, you will meet, interact and co-operate with the leading researchers and companies in the 802.11 realm. You will have the opportunity to influence the evolution of Wi-Fi, contribute to open research and standardization, and help develop technologies that connect people, devices, enterprises, and industries. Join us in shaping the next generation of Wi-Fi and creating intelligent, reliable, and seamlessly integrated wireless networks.
