  • Reporting to the Geotechnical Senior Engineering Supervisor, the Geotechnical Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is responsible for pit and spoil slope stability. 

    You will have the opportunity to perform slope stability assessments in the field, including by drone, interpret slope movement on instrumentation, and to perform and support stability analyses and designs. The Geotechnical Team provides stability guidance for the Open Pit Operations, and provides key information for safe access, mine designs, pit and spoil expansions, and design compliance. There is opportunity to make your mark by applying geotechnical skills and expertise on a variety of slope stability evaluations.  

    To be successful, we require someone with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, who can develop and communicate practical recommendations to mine planners and operations personnel. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and experience in coordinating internal resources. This role requires a motivated self-starter, who can multi-task effectively and work collaboratively with others in a technical team-based environment.

    Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
    Perform regular geotechnical inspections of the active and dormant mining areas, report on the inspections, and provide recommendations
    Manage and interpret geotechnical data and apply to stability analyses, slope designs, and recommendations
    Perform stability analyses for rock slopes, waste dumps, and soil stockpiles
    Coordinate site geotechnical field programs and support geotechnical analyses and designs of the Life of Mine plan
    Coordinate and review work by external geotechnical consultants to ensure it is fit for purpose and meets specifications, standards, and codes
    Contribute to geotechnical projects and scheduling, including developing Appropriation Requests and tender packages, allocating budget, and conducting risk assessments
    Support geotechnical drilling programs including diamond core, reverse circulation (RC), hydrogeology studies, and instrumentation
    Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering, Mine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology
    Registered, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a P. Eng. Or Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.)
    One to four years of experience in geotechnical roles; recent graduates also encouraged to apply
    Working knowledge preferred of Microsoft Suite including Excel, PowerPoint and relevant geotechnical and rock mechan.ics or mining software
    Recent geotechnical role at an open pit mining operation is an asset
    Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
