Journeyman Boilermaker

Boilermakers will assess, plan, make, install and repair boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and other large vessels that hold liquids and gases.  The boilermakers will be responsible for repairs/work orders in the following areas: Coker and related units, Crude and related units, Tank farm, vacuum unit,  waste water, water waste, water treaters, Fcc unit, alkylation unit, reformer and various hydro processing units.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
• 4 Years’ experience of refinery work preferred
• The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certification Preferred; however training is provided by CVR

• Fluent in English, oral and written required
• Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
• Critical Thinking Skills: must have the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

• Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns and questions
• Weld carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel and alloys (Monel, chrome) preferred.
• Use blueprints to determine locations, positions, or dimensions of parts
• Test and inspect exchanger systems for leaks or defects
• Clean equipment using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents
• Replace or repair broken valves, pipes, or joints, using hand and power tools, gas torches, and welding equipment
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on piping systems
• May help erect and repair air pollution equipment
• Inspect storage and process tanks, and smokestacks
• Bolting of structures and equipment.
• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
• Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
• Lay out, position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly; using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
• Recognize, set-up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
• Preferred weld separately or in combination carbon steel, stainless, cast iron and other alloys; (monel, chrome)
• Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
• Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux; according to welding chart specifications or types of thicknesses of metals
• Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
• Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained
• Troubleshoot problems and determine appropriate equipment to perform a job
• Positions and moves metal of various weight and dimensions that are part of the work process
• Positions and moves acetylene and oxygen bottles of varying weight and dimensions
• Utilize equipment to improve fit and weld vessel structures
• Maneuver into vessels through man ways and port-ways and work in confined spaces with and without fresh air
• Ability to work on high elevations
• Operates vehicles to perform job duties
• Install blinds and open man ways
• Blind and de-blinding of exchangers and towers
• Breakdown and put back together exchangers
• Fabricate, install or repair structural steel including beams, plate, ladders, walkways and angle iron
• Fabricate piping/heater tubes and roll tubes into headers
• Rigging and flagging of cranes and pickers
• Trained on and operates the firefighting equipment and fire extinguisher

• Adherence to all company policies and procedures
• Must follow the Safety Rules and Regulations of the company
• Must apply Ethical Principals at all times
• Must Pass CVR Weld Test
