The Felician Sisters of North America is seeking a Director of Nursing, Health & Wellness to lead a compassionate, person-centered model of care within our convent home in Buffalo, NY.

This is not a traditional skilled nursing facility role.

Instead, this is a unique opportunity for a nurse leader who is passionate about home care, hospice, or community-based care and is called to support the whole person—body, mind, and spirit in a mission-driven, faith-based environment.

Our convent home is a relationship-centered community, where care is rooted in dignity, presence, and partnership with the Sisters we serve—women who have dedicated their lives in service to others.

We are intentionally evolving our care model—moving from a task-driven, medical model toward a more person-centered, empowering approach to care.

As the Director of Nursing, Health & Wellness, you will play a key leadership role in this transformation by:

• Creating an environment where each Sister has a voice in her care and daily life
• Supporting aging in place, quality of life, and meaningful engagement
• Empowering staff to build relationships, not just complete tasks
• Integrating clinical excellence with compassion, presence, and mission

The Director of Nursing, Health & Wellness provides leadership and oversight for a holistic, person-directed care model that prioritizes dignity, autonomy, and wellbeing.

This role partners with an interdisciplinary team to ensure care practices reflect:

• Individual choice and personal preferences
• Whole-person wellbeing (physical, emotional, and spiritual)
• Collaboration across departments
• A warm, home-like environment

What You’ll Do

• Lead and guide a person-centered model of care that emphasizes dignity, independence, and meaningful daily life
• Coach and support staff in delivering relationship-based care
• Partner with Sisters, families, and team members to co-create individualized care approaches
• Oversee clinical care practices supporting comfort and quality of life
• Ensure documentation supports continuity and understanding of the whole person
• Foster a collaborative, respectful team culture
• Support staff development and engagement
• Execute or manage care staff scheduling
• Maintain clinical standards within a home-like environment
• Collaborate with leadership and HR
• Participate in on-call support as needed
• Assist the Administrator with employee relations to include recruitment, orientation, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, terminations, job description updates, training, staff development and enforcement of policies and procedures

We are especially seeking candidates who bring:

• Proven leadership in home care, hospice, palliative care, geriatrics, or community-based senior care
• Commitment to person-centered care models
• Comfort in a home-like environment
• Experience with aging in place and end-of-life care
• A collaborative and empowering leadership style
• Minimum of (10) years of experience as an active Registered Nurse (RN)
• Minimum of (5) years of supervisory experience in person centered healthcare/nursing, etc. (DON, ADON, Nurse Manager, etc.)
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in good standing required in the state of New York.
• Comprehensive supervisory experience, including hiring, employee disciplines, performance evaluations, staff scheduling, training, and staff engagement.
• Additional education or experience in such areas as rehabilitative or geriatric nursing is a plus
• Strong knowledge of regulatory standards and clinical best practices
• Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills

Respect for Human Dignity
Compassion
Transformation
Solidarity with Those in Need
Justice and Peace
