The Automation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automation and control systems supporting oil and gas production operations. This position works with field equipment, instrumentation, PLC/RTU systems, and SCADA communications to ensure production equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain automation and control equipment on oil and gas production facilities.

Install, configure, calibrate, and test instrumentation and automation devices.
- →
Troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and associated communication equipment.

Work with pressure, temperature, level, and flow instrumentation.

Troubleshoot control valves, transmitters, switches, sensors, and actuators.
- →
Diagnose electrical, instrumentation, communication, and control-system issues.
- →
Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on automation equipment.
- →
Support automation associated with wells, tank batteries, separators, compressors, pumps, SWDs, and other production equipment.

Assist with new equipment installations, startups, commissioning, and system upgrades.
- →
Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and control schematics.

Document repairs, maintenance activities, equipment changes, and troubleshooting findings.

Respond to field callouts and automation-related production issues as needed.

Follow all company safety procedures and applicable electrical and operational standards.
Requirements
~1 min readPrevious automation, instrumentation, I&E, or controls experience within oil and gas production required.
Experience troubleshooting PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, and field instrumentation.
Working knowledge of electrical and electronic control systems.
Ability to troubleshoot automation issues independently in a field environment.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel between field locations as required.
Ability to work outdoors and respond to callouts when necessary.
- High School Diploma or GED equiavelent required.
- Must meet conditional job offer requirements.
