At Focused Energy, we are pioneering SourceLight—a breakthrough initiative in compact, laser-driven radiation sources (LDRS) with cutting-edge, high-power laser technology. Our dual-mode LDRS platform enables real-time, non-destructive inspection of a wide range of materials, including complex and shielded items, by combining MeV X-rays and fast neutrons in a single, modular system. This technology addresses critical challenges across nuclear waste analysis, contraband detection, infrastructure inspection, and medical isotope production. With its unique combination of high resolution, material specificity, and deployment flexibility, LDRS creates opportunities beyond the limits of conventional systems. Our cross-disciplinary team brings together experts in laser and plasma physics, engineering, and AI. We are building our first demonstrator facility in Biblis, Germany, and moving rapidly toward market readiness and commercial deployment. Role Scope & Context

  Drive hazard identification and risk assessments for LDRS facility and selected subsystems.

  Ensure recognized safety analysis methods (FMEA, FTA, fault trees, event trees, HAZOP).

• →

  Develop, maintain, and control safety documentation, including safety cases and procedures for facilities.

  Provide formal safety input to design reviews and engineering change processes.

• →

  Support incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action tracking.

• →

  Own safety trainings, audits, and emergency preparedness activities.

• →

  Monitor applicable safety and regulatory requirements and advise on compliance impacts.

  Collaborate closely with engineering and operations teams to embed safety by design.

• Solid grounding in safety engineering principles and tools.

• Ability to translate complex technical risks into practical mitigation measures.

• Professional handling of audits, reviews, and regulatory interactions.

• Several years of experience in safety engineering or hazard analysis in industrial, scientific, or high-risk technical environments.

• Hazard and risk analysis methodologies.

• Safety documentation and change management.

• Familiarity with radiation-related environments and high-energy systems (advantage).

• Strong analytical capability.
