Veteran Liaison- Hospice

The Veteran Liaison will expand outreach to our veteran community, increase professional education on end-of-life issues as they relate to the specific needs of our veterans, as well as commemorate and acknowledge the sacrifice and contributions of our veterans in Frederick County and Montgomery County. Veteran Liaison responsible for program development, organization, and leadership of hospice outreach efforts in the community. It is common for veterans at this stage to face issues related to their military experiences that may never have been addressed. Staff and volunteer training is an integral component and will focus on providing the compassionate physical, emotional, and spiritual support so important to veterans and their families at end-of-life.

 Example of Essential Functions:

·        Promotes the appropriate use of hospice services to the veteran community.

·        Provides veteran centered education to internal and external customers in order to increase awareness about veteran issues near end-of-life.

·        Develops and implements veteran outreach efforts, collaborating with other local veteran organizations.

·        Works collaboratively with the hospice Volunteer Coordinator to develop a robust veteran volunteer program.

 Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·        Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively and professionally, strong public speaking skills.

·        Demonstrates ability to understand hospice regulations and reimbursement criteria.

·        Ability to use word processing, database, and clinical information software applications.

 Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:

·        Must possess a working knowledge of VA benefits and have the skills to obtain and provide guidance on available resources through the VA system.

·        Prior military experience with honorable discharge preferred.

·        Retired military preferred.

·        Bachelor’s degree with prior experience preferred.

·        Military experience in healthcare a plus.

 Patient Contact:

Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:

            _X_      Adult (18 years thru 65 years)

            _X_      Geriatric (66+ years)

Light Work – Lifting up to 20 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to ten pounds or requiring walking or standing to a significant degree (about six hours a day).

Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated, the speed of the movement, the required force and muscle involved.

Forceful Exertion: The amount of physical effort required to perform a task (such as moving patients) or to maintain control of equipment or tools. The amount of force depends on the type of grip, the weight of an object or person, body posture, the type of activity and duration of the task.

Awkward Posture: Posture is the position your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that are involved in the physical activity. Awkward postures include repeated or prolonged reaching, bending, kneeling, squatting, working overhead with your hands or arms, or holding fixed positions.

Contact Stress: Pressing the body hard on sharp edges can result in placing too much pressure on nerves, tendons, and blood vessels. For example, using the palm of your hand to hit or stick objects can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Risk Category B – MAY have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Some travel to locations in Frederick and surrounding counties is required. Must have own reliable source of transportation for all weather conditions.

Pay is based on experience, skills and education.   If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours.  The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.

Hourly range: $20.25-$27.91
