The Business Intelligence & Reporting Analyst is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of enterprise reporting, business intelligence, and application solutions that support the mission of the organization. The role builds and maintains operational and management reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), develops business intelligence solutions that turn enterprise data into actionable information, and designs and maintains data-facing web applications that support those deliverables. In addition to hands-on technical work, this position coordinates its assigned reporting and business intelligence projects from initiation through closure, ensuring that work undertaken by the department is evaluated for business value, technical feasibility, and alignment with enterprise strategy.

- Designs, develops, tests, deploys, and maintains operational, financial, and management reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Serves as the department’s primary point of contact for SunPlus reporting, developing and maintaining reports against SunPlus and GC Treasury data and partnering with the Information Services Infrastructure and Adventist.Cloud team to maintain the reporting environment.
- Consults departmental stakeholders to gather reporting requirements for accurate, well-structured, and timely reports.
- Writes and optimizes T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions in support of reporting and analytic workloads.
- Administers the reporting environment, including report deployment, subscriptions, scheduling, folder structure, and role-based security to ensure appropriate access to sensitive financial information.
- Validates report accuracy and data integrity; diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves report and query performance issues.
- Modernizes and consolidates legacy reports, establishing standards for report design, naming, distribution, and documentation.
- Maintains documentation of report specifications, data definitions, and data sources to ensure continuity of institutional knowledge.
- Use BI tools (e.g. Power BI, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS) to design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions, researching and evaluating emerging technologies to make recommendations.
- Builds and maintains data models, datasets, extract-transform-load (ETL) processes, and data integrations between enterprise systems to support analysis and reporting.
- Develops dashboards, scorecards, and self-service analytics capabilities that enable leadership and departmental users to make data-driven decisions.
- Partners with data owners to define key metrics, business rules, and data definitions that promote consistency and trust in enterprise data, in alignment with GC data governance and data classification policies.
- Analyzes and interprets data trends, presenting findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Responsible for the conceptual, logical, and physical structure of reporting and analytical data stores in collaboration with database administrators.
- Coordinates assigned reporting and business intelligence projects from request through delivery, including requirements gathering, scheduling, and status reporting to the Director and requesting departments.
- Balances competing reporting and analytics priorities across requesting departments to optimize departmental resources and ensure successful outcomes.
- Participates in the evaluation of software products and services, ensuring that recommendations align with enterprise strategy and demonstrate value.
- Analyzes, plans, develops, tests, documents, and deploys data-facing web applications and automation — including reporting portals and scheduled data processes — using the Microsoft .NET stack (.NET/C#, ASP.NET, Entity Framework), JavaScript frameworks (Angular/React), SQL Server, and common web technologies.
- Develops and maintains RESTful APIs and integration components that connect enterprise systems.
- Writes clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following established coding standards and best practices participating in code reviews.
- Applies sound visual design and data presentation principles to reports, dashboards, and supporting web interfaces so that information is clear, accessible, and easy to consume.
- Maintains familiarity with version control tools and methodologies (i.e., Git) and participates in the department’s build and release practices.
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots assigned application and database performance issues.
- Collaborates with other developers, database administrators, and technical staff in the development and integration of software solutions.
- Identifies, prioritizes, and maintains awareness of current trends within the reporting, business intelligence, and software development industry.
- Serves on boards and committees as assigned.
- Serves as back-up technical support to General Conference end-users as requested.
- Must be a member in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
- Must maintain a regular and reliable work schedule.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or related field required.
- Four or more years of full-time experience in application development, reporting, and/or business intelligence required.
- Experience developing reports against ERP or financial systems required; SunPlus experience desirable.
- Demonstrated experience designing and developing reports with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and writing advanced T-SQL against relational databases (e.g., SQL Server), required.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft .NET stack (.NET/C#, ASP.NET) and one or more modern JavaScript frameworks (Angular/React) required.
- Relevant successful work experience and/or certifications may be considered in lieu of academic requirements. Appropriate ongoing training and certification will be encouraged.
- Knowledge of principles, policies and beliefs of the General Conference and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, as well as of the church structure and organization, including committee procedures, etc.
- Must have a good working knowledge of employer’s computer environment such as O/S (Windows); Office Suites (MS Office); e-mail programs (MS Outlook); development, database, and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret business and financial data and to present findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities while meeting established deadlines.
- Must exercise discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential financial and personnel information.
- Must be friendly, courteous, have good communication skills, be willing to learn, and be self-motivated with ability to complete tasks with little supervision.
- Comfortable working directly with users in high pressure situations.
- Strong interpersonal and English language communication skills (in written and verbal form) in providing support for functions performed and to maintain high levels of communication with users, stakeholders, and superiors.
