Join a global professional services leader, committed to solving the world’s biggest challenges across energy, transport, utilities and urbanisation.

GHD is one of the world’s leading professional services companies operating in the global markets of water, energy and resources, environment, property and buildings, and transportation.

Privately owned by our people, GHD provides engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services to private and public sector clients across five continents. Focused on creating lasting community benefit, our connected global network of over 12,000 people delivers projects with high standards of safety, quality and ethics.

The Role

Are you ready to help shape sustainable offshore development? GHD Advisory is looking for a driven Marine Consultant (circa 5 years’ experience) to support the delivery of marine consents and environmental approvals across a range of marine and coastal projects, in the UK and internationally.

In this role, you’ll contribute to environmental approvals for offshore infrastructure projects, including in offshore renewables, subsea cables (telecommunications and power cables), oil and gas operations and decommissioning, carbon capture and storage and coastal infrastructure.

Our team provides specialist marine consenting support across offshore and coastal developments. Our focus is on owning defined consenting scopes and bringing clarity, discipline and forward momentum to approval processes. We aim to progress projects without unnecessary delay, distraction or drama.

You will be responsible for producing high-quality technical inputs, owning defined packages of work, and supporting stakeholder and regulator engagement. You’ll work closely with colleagues and clients across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas as part of multi-disciplinary teams.

This is an opportunity to build your expertise at the cutting edge of marine environmental consulting, working alongside experienced specialists and developing your technical, project delivery, and client-facing skills in an agile, growing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of marine EIAs, consents, and permitting strategies for offshore developments in UK and European waters, working under the guidance of senior specialists. Contribute to international projects as and when required.
  • Provide technical inputs to workstreams (e.g., screening/scoping, baseline, impact assessment, mitigation,  and consenting deliverables) and ensure outputs are clear, evidence-based, and audit-ready.
  • Coordinate tasks and smaller packages of work, including managing your own time and contributing to project programmes, budgets, and risk/issue logs.
  • Collaborate with global GHD teams to share best practice, support consistent technical approaches, and contribute to knowledge management and continuous improvement.
  • Support bids and proposals by contributing technical content, reviewing requirements, and helping develop methodologies, schedules, and cost inputs.
  • Build and maintain positive client relationships through reliable delivery, responsive communication, and professional conduct, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Participate in stakeholder engagements, workshops, and internal forums, supporting senior team members in presenting technical information and responding to queries.
  • Work closely with engineers, planners, and regulators to integrate environmental considerations into project design and to track actions through to closure.
  • Draft and coordinate high-quality reports and technical notes, incorporating internal QA/QC processes and feedback from senior reviewers.
  • Stay informed on relevant regulatory and sector developments and share insights with the team to support learning and service improvement.

Requirements

~2 min read
  • A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Sciences, Marine Science, or a related discipline.
  • ~ 5 years of experience in marine environmental consulting, with notable exposure to one or more of the marine sectors listed in ‘The Role’ above.
  • Experience contributing to environmental impact assessments and permitting projects (e.g., supporting EIA chapters/technical appendices, EAJs, consent application inputs, or regulator information requests);
  • Experience in consenting activities in the marine environment in the UK or internationally, including liaising with regulators and their advisors..
  • A solid and developing understanding of UK environmental regulations and marine consenting requirements; international consenting exposure is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with environmental and social risk frameworks (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles) is considered an advantage and an interest in building capability in this area.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to support and mentor junior colleagues and contribute to a positive, high-performing team culture.
  • A strong delivery mindset and client focus; interest and experience in supporting proposals and business development is welcomed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills—able to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and engage professionally with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Skilled in technical writing, data analysis, and regulatory engagement, with an ability to distil complex issues into actionable strategies.
  • Passion for sustainability, innovation, and creating lasting environmental value through infrastructure development.
