Responsibilities
~1 min read- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing processes
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Directors
- Produce Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow reports
- Perform variance analysis and financial performance tracking
- Monitor operational expenses and overall firm profitability
- Maintain general ledger and perform account reconciliations
- Manage and reconcile legal trust accounts and client monies
- Accurately record trust receipts and disbursements
- Ensure trust account balances align with client ledgers
- Prepare trust reconciliation reports and audit-ready documentation
- Maintain strict confidentiality and regulatory compliance
- Ensure adherence to Australian Legal Trust Accounting requirements
- Process legal billing and invoicing for matters and services
- Monitor Work in Progress (WIP) and billable time recording
- Track debtor aging and follow up on outstanding invoices
- Coordinate billing adjustments with Directors and legal staff
- Process payroll for Australian employees in compliance with AU regulations
- Maintain employee payroll records and entitlements
- Calculate leave accruals, superannuation, and statutory deductions
- Prepare payroll reports and summaries
- Coordinate with Directors for payroll approvals
- Prepare rolling cashflow forecasts
- Monitor receivables and payables
- Assist Directors in budgeting and financial planning
- Identify financial risks and provide actionable recommendations
- Maintain financial records in accordance with accounting standards and legal requirements
- Assist in internal and external audits
- Ensure proper documentation and audit trails are maintained
- Support regulatory and reporting compliance requirements
- Coordinate with legal and operational teams regarding financial concerns
- Provide financial insights to support firm decision-making
- Assist in monitoring operational costs
- Supervise and mentor 2–3 onsite accounting staff
- Review and approve team output
- Provide coaching and training to team members
- Improve workflows and documentation processes
- Ensure all deliverables meet deadlines and client expectations
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, ( CPA)
- Minimum of 5 years accounting experience
- Experience in legal firm accounting or trust accounting (highly preferred)
- Experience supporting Australian clients
- Experience processing Australian payroll
- CPA is preferred but not required
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards
