We are the nation's largest owner of top-rated local television stations and digital assets serving 117 full-power television markets that collectively reach approximately 37% of US television households. The portfolio includes 80 markets with the top-rated television station and 100 markets with the first- and/or second-highest-rated television station in average all-day ratings across 116 of such markets that were measured by Nielsen in 2025. Be a journalist who can truly do it all! We’re looking for a high-energy, multi-talented storyteller to join KNOP-TV in North Platte, Nebraska. This isn't a "stay in your lane" kind of job. From the anchor desk to the sidelines, and from breaking news to live weather updates, you will master every facet of modern media across broadcast and streaming platforms.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Command the desk: Serve as a versatile fill-in anchor for both traditional broadcast newscasts and our rapidly growing OTT streaming platforms, delivering news with authority and personality.
• Own the field: Pitch, shoot, write, and edit impactful local stories that matter to North Platte and the surrounding Sandhills, ensuring our community’s voice is heard.
• Master the elements: Learn to deliver live weather updates and cover local sports, gaining the kind of well-rounded experience that most journalists take years to acquire.
• Lead digital-first publishing: Don’t wait for the 6:00 PM news—push breaking updates, live streams, and custom video content straight to mobile, web, and social feeds the moment news happens.
• Drive streaming innovation: Help shape our OTT strategy by creating unique content for connected TV apps, engaging a digital-first audience where they live.
• Connect with the community: Build trusted relationships across North Platte, becoming a familiar face who listens to viewers and tells their stories with empathy and urgency.
Requirements
~2 min read• A "get it done" attitude: You’re excited by the idea of doing everything—news, weather, and sports—and you thrive on the variety of a small-market newsroom.
• Screen presence: Whether you’re behind the anchor desk or live on a smartphone in the field, you bring charisma, clarity, and a digital-first mindset.
• Technical curiosity: You’re ready to master ENG gear, non-linear editing (Edius), and newsroom systems (ENPS) to produce professional content on tight deadlines.
• Storytelling chops: You have a degree in journalism (or equivalent experience) and a passion for finding the "why" behind every story.
• Composure under pressure: When news breaks, you’re the calm in the storm, able to synthesize facts quickly and go live at a moment’s notice.
• Community heart: You’re genuinely curious about the people of Nebraska and want to make a real impact in a tight-knit, supportive environment.
• The basics: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are a must for this mobile role.
