POSITION SUMMARY:
The Bakery Clerk supports the daily operations of the Bakery Department by providing friendly customer service, maintaining attractive and fully stocked bakery displays, assisting with bakery production and packaging, and following food safety, sanitation, quality, and safety standards. This role represents Los Altos Ranch Markets by delivering excellent service, demonstrating company values, and contributing to a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Greet and assist customers in a friendly, service-oriented manner; answer questions, provide product information, and respond to customer needs promptly;
Stock, face, rotate, package, label, and merchandise bakery products to maintain appealing, fresh, and fully stocked displays;
Assist with preparing, baking, packaging, and displaying breads, cookies, desserts, pan dulce, and other bakery items according to department standards;
Maintain department standards for cleanliness, sanitation, food safety, quality, safety, loss prevention, and overall department conditions;
Monitor dates, pricing, and product quality; remove outdated, damaged, or spoiled products from sales areas in accordance with company procedures;
Safely operate and clean bakery equipment and tools, including ovens, hot cases, mixers, slicers, scales, and packaging equipment, as assigned and trained;
Receive and process customer bakery orders in person and by telephone, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clear communication with the team;
Follow company policies, department procedures, and applicable health and food safety regulations;
Perform other duties as assigned.

Consistently demonstrates customer service excellence by greeting customers, engaging respectfully, and creating a positive shopping experience;
Works with urgency and accuracy to improve service speed, product availability, and overall customer satisfaction.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Food Handler Card or ability to obtain one as required by applicable law and company policy;
Prior retail, grocery, bakery, food service, or customer service experience preferred;
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members in a courteous and professional manner;
Ability to follow instructions, work safely around food and heated equipment, and maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards;
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs require.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK CONDITIONS:
The physical demands and work conditions below represent those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities:

WALKING: Continuously throughout the shift while moving through the department, sales floor, storage areas, and workspaces.
STANDING: Continuously throughout the shift while serving customers, stocking displays, packaging products, and performing bakery tasks.
LIFTING/CARRYING: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally, with or without assistance.
BENDING/REACHING/STOOPING: Frequently while stocking, rotating, cleaning, packaging, and retrieving products or supplies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a retail grocery bakery environment with exposure to cold storage areas, hot ovens or heated equipment, cleaning products, sharp tools, and wet or slippery surfaces.
SAFETY: Must follow company safety procedures, food safety practices, and proper equipment-use guidelines at all times.
