Since 1893, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.

 

A2 is a dynamic 29-bed unit where a dedicated team of nursing and healthcare professionals delivers high-quality, compassionate care to a diverse patient population, including medical-surgical, inpatient oncology, and hematology patients. Our nurses are highly skilled and deeply committed, working collaboratively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team to provide holistic, patient- and family-centered care. We recognize the importance of each individual in the healing journey and foster an environment where empathy, innovation, and clinical excellence come together. JOB SUMMARY

Demonstrates clinical competence through utilization of the nursing process and development of a synergistic nurse-patient relationship. Assesses and identifies patient problems/needs, establishes a plan of care, implements and evaluates care provided to patients.

  • Graduate of a school of nursing; BSN preferred
  • One year RN experience
  • Current unrestricted State of CT Registered Nurse license
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Oncology Nurse (ONC) certification preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of Nursing principles and practices. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Communicates effectively in order to provide technical or complex information as well as instruction. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers and patients. Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible and a team player. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Commitment to customer service. Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data.

 

Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather and interpret information from various sources. Able to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems and/or emergency situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
