The adult Medical Diagnostic Units at Hamilton Health Sciences include the MDUs at Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, and McMaster University Medical Centre. These are all administered in the Diagnostic Services program with a unified management structure. Specially trained physicians, technicians and technologists provide a range of both In-Patient and Out-Patient diagnostic testing that focuses on Cardiac, Pulmonary, and Neurological issues. The specific diagnostic tests available are: Electrocardiography (ECG), Holter Monitoring, Stress Exercise Testing, Echocardiography (Echo), Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT). Electroencephalography (EEG), Electromyography (MG), Evoked Potentials (EVP) and Peripheral Vascular Testing.
Accountable to the Clinical Manager, the Senior Echocardiography Technologist performs Echocardiograms on both inpatients and outpatients. Duties include: performing M-mode, 2-D, Doppler and colour flow echocardiograms in accordance with hospital procedure; interpreting echocardiograms; coordinating routine maintenance of equipment with MES; maintaining up to date departmental records and files; assisting physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms; protocolling dobutamine stress echocardiography and other duties as may be assigned. The Senior Technologist will also oversee the scheduling of patients, review and advise on capacity concerns, training new staff and students, and communicate regularly with Clinical Manager regarding physician, patient or staff issues/concerns.
Monday to Friday; days and evenings, Holidays and Weekends
1. Current Registration with the CMRITO ( College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario)
2. Successful completion of a recognized Echocardiography course
3. Registration with Sonography Canada is considered an asset and preferred
4. Minimum of two years’ experience in an Echocardiography Lab
5. Basic knowledge of ECG interpretation
6. Demonstrated teamwork and communication skills
