Hoffman Construction is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to represent the HR Team as the primary HR resource on the project site for employees. This person will collaborate closely with the project leadership team to ensure the company's people practices are aligned with the business objectives.  This position will provide tactical HR support that enhances organizational culture, boosts performance, and drives business success through people-centric initiatives. Key functions include tactical partnership, talent management, employee relations, talent development, compliance, performance management. This role reports in person full-time to the project in Childress, TX.

 

Responsibilities

  • Partner with key stakeholders and expert teams including other HR colleagues, Benefits, Payroll, Legal, IT, Project Management, and Leadership to ensure an efficient, clearly communicated, and positive employee experience for employees at the project site. 
  • Be the go-to HR person for employment and labor law questions associated with the state in which the HR Business Partner is located. 
  • Be a resource to the affiliate company leaders and office support personnel onsite.
  • Manage HR programs impacting the full employee life cycle at the job site for both corporate and union craft work force. 
  • Work with in-house counsel to ensure the project complies with federal, state, and local labor regulations (wage regulations, equal employment opportunity laws, etc.) for project-based and remote employees.
  • Partner with leaders at the assigned location ensuring a mutual understanding of business strategy and project requirements. 
  • Evaluate and anticipate human resources-related needs on the project site and provide recommended solutions or actions. 
  • Support managers in identifying recruiting needs based on staffing plans and supporting the Talent Management and Talent Development teams as needed.
  • Provide employee development and performance management advice to employees and managers as appropriate. 
  • Advise employees and managers on employee relations issues, policies, practices, and HR initiatives. 
  • Investigate, assess, and recommend resolutions to employee relations issues in collaboration with in-house counsel.
  • Analyze, manage, and track key employee relations data to understand trends and develop proactive solutions.
  • Contribute to Corporate HR projects and ad hoc cross-functional related projects. 
  • Champion Hoffman’s culture and values and support efforts to foster a culture of belonging to help the jobsite employees have fun, achieve their goals, and develop their skill sets.

We are looking for a flexible, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines.  The successful candidate will possess:

  • Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is a combination of being stationary and moving about the work location.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, to ascend and descend ladders, scaffold, inspect confined or underground spaces.
  • Hands/Arms: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Frequently operates machinery and will use hand/fingers and legs to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, and position materials.
  • Sight: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus in an outdoor environment. Must be able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license. The work is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading print and digital documents.
  • Hearing: Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment mor than 50% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection, as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and co-workers in an office setting and on the job site.
  • Speech: Ability to communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, protocols, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope in English.
  • Lift/Carry: Must have the ability to lift or manipulate fifty pounds to a height of three feet and carry or push it 50-100 feet.
  • Bending/Twisting: Frequent.
  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: Must be able to regularly position self in a kneeling, crouching or crawling position for purpose of examining project work.
  • Must be able to physically access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review.
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow for extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
  • Must use independent judgment, organizational and critical thinking skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
  • A bachelor's degree in human resources, business, psychology, business management, communications, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Human Resources or People Operations Experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws, especially those related to field operations and construction labor.
  • Knowledge of union labor employment issues.
  • Proven ability to influence and build trust with both frontline workers and senior leaders.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships, communicate well with others at all levels, think analytically, and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams)

 

  • Knowledge of Texas Labor Laws
  • Proficient in Human Resources Information Systems such as Oracle HCM, Workday or similar.
  • Experience working with a union labor workforce.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
