The general salary range for this position is $133,800 – 214,200. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.
Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Vice President, Global Research and Testing. In this position you will provide strategic leadership for Humane World for Animals’ Research and Testing Center of Expertise (COE), serving as the organization’s hub of scientific expertise, policy leadership, and campaign innovation to eliminate the use of animals in research and testing globally. The role drives global strategy development for research and testing reform, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and evidence-based scientific approaches. In partnership with country teams, local partners, scientific institutions, corporations, and policymakers, the position supports the development and implementation of national and regional strategies, adapting global priorities to local contexts while promoting consistency, measurable impact, and scalable systemic change. This position collaborates closely with colleagues across programmatic and advancement teams to strengthen organizational visibility, secure resources, and accelerate the global transition to non-animal research and testing methods.
Responsibilities:
• Strategy & Program Leadership - Develops and directs the overall strategy of the Research and Testing Center of Expertise (COE) in collaboration with diverse organizational representation, and supports program implementation at the national and international levels. Reviews and elevates expansion or new activity requests, ensuring initiatives align with organizational priorities, scientific best practices, and resource capacity. Provides leadership and guidance through strategic planning in the creation and implementation of campaigns, policy efforts, corporate engagement strategies, scientific initiatives, and public advocacy to replace animal use in research and testing globally;• Staff & COE Management Oversees the Research and Testing COE team to ensure goals are achieved. Provides staff with ongoing guidance, mentorship, performance management, and professional development. Manages consultants and builds succession capacity within the COE;• Stakeholder Engagement & Influence - Builds and sustains relationships with internal and external stakeholders including governments, regulatory agencies, scientific institutions, corporations, coalitions, and NGOs to advance organizational priorities and accelerate the global transition to non-animal research and testing methods;• Advancement & Fundraising Collaboration - Works closely with Advancement to ensure consistent communication of program achievements and impact. Provides technical and strategic input to fundraising and communications materials, translating scientific and policy outcomes into compelling narratives that strengthen funding and visibility for research and testing initiatives. • Financial Stewardship - Develops and manages the COE budget with full accountability. Oversees organizational resource allocation to ensure efficient, strategic, and high-impact use of funds for the whole Research and Testing program.• Major Donor Engagement - Solicits and cultivates donations from major donors, foundations, and corporate partners. Drafts and edits proposals and reports in collaboration with Philanthropy and executive leadership.• Quality Standards, Metrics & Impact -Ensures high scientific, policy, and programmatic standards across all research and testing initiatives. Establishes metrics and systems to monitor program quality, track outcomes, and measure global impact. Oversees research, publications, and evidence generation aligned with Humane World for Animals’ objectives• Representation & Thought Leadership – Represents the organization at scientific, regulatory, corporate, and public forums. Serves as a senior spokesperson engaging with policymakers, media, industry leaders, and the scientific community on replacing animal experimentation worldwide• Organizational Culture - Champions Humane World for Animals’ philosophical and behavioral norms, fostering collaboration, accountability, innovation, and a strong organizational culture.• Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree strongly preferred;• A minimum of twelve (12) years of progressive functional experience required;• A minimum of six years of management experience required;• Thorough knowledge of and commitment to animal protection issues;• Superior leadership skills with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of staff management practices and processes and the ability to establish accountabilities and expectations and manage performance to achieve results;• Superior communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to translate information into a meaningful, understandable context and message, regardless of the format (e.g., documents, public speaking situations, presentations, etc.);• Knowledge of business operations, including effective budget development and management processes, as well as the ability to translate strategic thinking into action plans and related outcomes;• A high level of confidence, integrity, interpersonal skills, and a professional executive presence for effectively interacting with and influencing others, internal and external to Humane World International, as well as for facilitating meetings and conducting public speaking/presentations;• The ability to build/foster relationships by reinforcing trust and respect, and demonstrating high standards of tact, diplomacy and discretion;• Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as the ability to handle complex situations and demonstrate sound judgment and problem-solving;• Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with demonstrated flexibility and the ability to manage multiple and often changing priorities and issues of varying complexity, while meeting time sensitive deadlines and deliverables;• Demonstrated propensity to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned accountabilities;• Strong business acumen, negotiation and mediation skills, as well as a demonstrated attention to detail and a focus on achieving quality outcomes;• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy, demanding and deadline driven environment with aplomb;• Technical proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e., WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);• The ability to work long hours should a crisis situation arise;• Willingness to travel.
