The Medication Affordability Program Pharmacist collaborates with the pharmacy technicians to support patients in accessing affordable medications by coordinating financial assistance programs, managing applications, and ensuring compliance with program requirements. This role works closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, providers, and patients to reduce medication cost barriers and improve adherence.
- Support IMAP pharmacy technicians in areas that may require pharmacist knowledge/expertise/license including but not limited to the following:
- Medication interchanges based on coverage and/or available programs
- Preferred product by payor and/or available assistance program
- Alternative dosage form
- Clinical patient information/reviews for application process
- Serve as a resource for the pharmacy technician in workflow
- Medication interchanges based on coverage and/or available programs
- Educates patients on available medication use and/or financial assistance options and guides them through the process.
- Documents all interactions and program activities in the pharmacy system or designated software.
- Assist with quality assurance/improvement activities, training, data/metric analysis
Requirements:
- Requires Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor's of Science in Pharmacy prior to 2006
- Successful completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 or PGY2 residency may be required.
- Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
- Requires current Indiana Pharmacist license or eligibility for Indiana licensure as a Pharmacist.
- Board certification or other specialized training may be required.
- Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
- May require travel to IU Health facilities.
- May require weekend rotations.
