What You'll Do As a Water Treatment Plant Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of treatment processes and equipment that provide high-quality drinking water to the community. Plant Operations Operate pumps, valves, motors, turbines, and related treatment equipment. Monitor plant control systems and adjust process controls to regulate water flow, pressure, and treatment performance. Operate and monitor treatment processes to ensure water quality standards are achieved. Regulate water movement through treatment, storage, and distribution systems. Perform system backwashing and routine operational adjustments. Monitor reservoirs, tanks, well stations, and plant equipment during assigned shifts. Water Quality & Laboratory Testing Collect water samples and perform laboratory testing, including pH, chlorine residual, dissolved oxygen, and other operational analyses. Evaluate test results and make process control adjustments to maintain regulatory compliance and treatment efficiency. Record and track water quality data, operational readings, and treatment information. Assist in maintaining accurate regulatory records and operational reports. Chemical Treatment & Process Control Safely handle, transport, mix, and apply treatment chemicals. Adjust chemical feed systems based on water quality conditions and treatment demands. Change chlorine cylinders, inspect for leaks, and adjust feed rates as required. Monitor treatment effectiveness and make operational changes to optimize performance. Equipment Inspection & Maintenance Inspect equipment, gauges, meters, pumps, and treatment systems to identify operational concerns. Calibrate meters and monitoring devices used during assigned shifts. Perform routine preventative maintenance and housekeeping activities. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional facility environment. Safety & Compliance Follow all company, state, and federal safety requirements. Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment. Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and emergency response activities. Maintain compliance with all operating procedures and regulatory requirements. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Florida Class C Water Operator License or higher and experience operating a drinking water treatment facility.  High School Diploma or GED.  Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnight schedules. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience with SCADA systems, laboratory testing, and process control. Climb ladders and stairways safely. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work around chemicals, mechanical equipment, and treatment systems. Ability to work in confined spaces.
