Bath Iron Works (BIW), a General Dynamics company, is seeking a highly motivated, efficiency minded, and detail oriented individual to be the Manager of Trade Planning. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), this individual will lead a team responsible for all work order packaging and deck plate planning functions for new construction, install work in Bath, ME. Successful candidates will be comfortable managing the details of a packaging workload that can routinely exceed 2,500 work orders per week as well as a deck plate planning staff that supports an Operations workload of the same magnitude. This person must be able to quantifiably measure the performance of their individual contributors and take appropriate management action. At the same time, this leader must support skills development and innovation that will allow our team to achieve our aggressive efficiency goals.
Responsibilities

- →Oversee a team of salaried and hourly individual contributors as well as front line supervisors to ensure they perform their duties in a safe manner.
Execution:
- →Manage both the work order packaging and deck plate planning teams.
- →Develop and maintain a dashboard and a VIZ board IAW the BIW Business Operating System (BOS) including a RAIL in SmartSheets for all muster issues.
- →Develop and implement a system to measure work order packaging efficiency at the individual contributor level, report findings to the department head and take appropriate action.
Training and Development:
- →Ensure front line supervisors are holding daily musters to promote team development, share lessons learned, and facilitate tiered communication.
- →Lead effort to cultivate and implement ideas that will improve overall efficiency on the team.
- →Ensure all new members of the team are properly on-boarded IAW departmental procedure.
Team Collaboration and Communication:
- →Ensure front line supervisors have robust processes with necessary fail safes and backups for assigning the right tasks to the right individuals daily.
- →Promote open dialog with production control counterpart in support of the Operations Plan of the Week process.
- →Ensure work order package content is well understood by both planning and operations so performance to expectation can be measured.
Continuous Improvement:
- →Have an eye for continuous improvement on all projects in an effort to improve Safety, Quality, Schedule, Cost, and People.
Nice to Have

- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Nice to Have
~1 min read- 7 years of experience in planning required.
- 4 years of supervisory experience with increasing levels of responsibility required.
- Previous experience supervising Local S7 employees required.
- Previous trade planning experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify process bottlenecks, analyze complex data, and make informed decisions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access, required to manage work assignments and performance metrics.
- Ability to summarize project status to report out to high level stake holders clearly and effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead a team toward common goals.
- Strong desire and ability to collaborate and coordinate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent organization and time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Attention to detail despite a large dataset and a commitment to accuracy in meeting deliverables.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
