Under the overall supervision of the Head of Sub-Office and the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Associate, the Project Associate (MHPSS) will be based in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and will have the following duties and responsibilities:
Support individual protection screening activities of migrants upon arrival in line with standard institutional tools and programme-specific tools, assist in documenting protection-related information and maintaining case records, including information related to survivors of GBV and human trafficking, children at risk, including unaccompanied and separated, individuals with serious health condition and psychosocial support needs, in accordance with established procedures.
Support case management activities and assistance (including AVR assistance), including following up on cases, maintaining case records, monitoring referrals, and coordinating with specialized service providers, as required.
Assist in the implementation of safe and dignified post arrival assistance, in accordance with privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent procedures; support with documentation and coordination with relevant authorities (e.g. consular, migration, local government).
Support communication with beneficiaries by explaining available assistance, and providing information using approved materials and established communication procedures.
Assist with referrals of individuals with specific protection needs to specialized services, including services for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), , in line with established protection principles and referral pathways.
Support data collection and administrative activites related assessments and information-gathering exercises concerning migrant populations, social inclusion, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and other protection-related areas, including documentation and referral of gender-based violence (GBV) related cases in accordance with establish procedures.
Assist the Team Leader in preparing reports, summaries, outcomes of case work, and support the compilation of information for protection related reporting, lessons learned and monitoring of project indicators as required by programme.
Carry out duty travel as required for field visits, monitoring of services or partner organization sites.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Protection Associate or Senior Return Specialist related to AVR protection activities.
Requirements
~1 min readHigh school diploma with five years of professional experience; or,
Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, from an accredited academic institution with three years of professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience supporting mental health and psychological support (MHPSS) activities; experience with migrant populations is an advantage.
Knowledge of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support programme activities, protection mechanisms, and referral procedures.
Experience and knowledge in migration, return, reintegration, trafficking, and smuggling of migrants.
Experience preparing reports, maintaining records, and supporting programme documentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher SharePoint) and general IT skills. Familiarity with traditional and social practices, cultural norms, migration-related issues in the country.
Understanding project administration, monitoring, and evaluation concepts and procedures.
Experience liaising with governmental authorities, relevant government counterparts, other national / international institutions, and private sector entities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
Attention to detail and ability to organize paperwork and documentation in a methodical way.
All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).
For this position, required to be fluent Spanish, working knowledge in English is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
