Job Summary: The Arts Technician assist University students enrolled in studio art classes. Maintains, repairs, or builds equipment and parts. Manages purchasing. Provides guidance, trains, and/or may supervise student employees.


Additional Department Summary: This position supports instruction and studio operations with a primary emphasis on the Department’s wood and metal fabrication facilities. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in woodworking and/or metalworking and be comfortable working in an active shop environment. Responsibilities include providing technical support to faculty and students, promoting safe operation of shop equipment, and assisting with the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of woodworking and metalworking machinery and tools. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting shop equipment is highly desirable.


Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of art experience; OR associate's degree and some art experience.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a woodworking and/or metalworking shop environment, including the safe operation and maintenance of shop equipment commonly used in wood and metal fabrication. Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on shop machinery is preferred. Experience supporting instructional activities in an academic, makerspace, or similar technical environment is also desirable.
