Pay Grade/Pay Range:  Minimum: $18.32 - Midpoint: $21.97 (Hourly N4)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary: The Research Assistant III assists with research work tasks of higher-complexity in support of a research project under minimal supervision. May assist with ordering equipment and supplies, set up of equipment, performing experiments, monitoring results, data collection, preparation of support materials, etc. May supervise students and/or other support workers assigned to the research project.

Additional Department Summary: Manage day-to-day functions of the Alabama Research Institute on Aging, to include planning, administration, evaluation and implementation. Responsibilities include coordinating development and submission of research grant applications; managing research project operations; budgetary monitoring and management; developing and maintaining strong relationships with the media, state and local service organizations and federal funding agencies; building and sustaining linkages among UA faculty/ students, Alabama citizens, and human service delivery organizations at local, state and federal levels. May recommend the establishment of policies and procedures. Acts as liaison with university departments to ensure coordination of effort and exchange of information.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of research support experience; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of research support experience; OR bachelor's degree or higher and some research support experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management. Good planning, coordinating, and organizing skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures. Knowledge of federal grants process (e.g., NIH, NSF, HRSA). Expertise in research project management. Familiarity with analytic technology and its application in an academic research context. Willingness to be flexible in work hours and environment. Willingness to accept additional responsibilities. Ability to work individually and collaboratively with a wide variety of colleagues. Ability to work with various constituencies and demonstrate cultural competency. Ability to act independently, handle multiple tasks, and exercise initiative and good judgment. Skill in program and event planning, implementation and evaluation. Attention to the big picture and detail of projects and programs.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with three years' experience in research project management, or master's degree with one year's relevant experience
